So, If someone didn't have financial support to power through school and had to work and pay their own way that is frowned upon?

The time to get a degree doesn't make sense to me either. When I look for candidates, I just look at the college attended, and the major, GPA doesn't even matter.

Hiring data point...my latest internal recommendation took just a week for the individual to get an invite via mail. Normal time has been 30-60 days for other ones I have sent in since August. Individual is retiring AF with very limited flying (10 hours a month) past few years due to staff job.

Well you must have the magic touch, mine hasn't heard a peep since Oct 2013. Recency was an issue at the beginning of this adventure however now is current in a beechjet with almost 200 in the last year. Former military pilot, master's degree, Bachelor's from USC and 7 internal reqs from 747 Captain to 757 FO's no one with less than 14 years at Delta. No joy.

I had access to a PPT put out by ALPA/Delta about hiring, and there were a few slides on "Key Selection Factors." The very first slide was on education, followed by a slide on flying training, then a slide on employment history/achievements. That might tell you where they prioritize education versus flying versus work history.

Unfortunately, education is years behind us and we can't change the parameters of what we majored in or how long it took us to graduate, but those are the items they look at. I know it's a big commitment, but folks might consider starting a graduate program if you have the time and means - it will boost your GPA and credentials in Delta's eyes.
I, and many others on here, really appreciate you posting this. Just that one slide answered many questions I had. Do you have any information on flying experience and achievement slides?

Thanks again for providing that.

Unfortunately, yes. When applications are reviewed, "time to complete degree" is a major factor in scoring. Once you are selected for an interview they are people and have been very good about hearing people's stories and understanding we are all human, but the initial selection is very particular about this.

Good to hear. I'd been seeing right at about 60 days from email to invite. That jives with another friend (for whom someone else sent an email) - about one week from the email to a "fix it." Similar situation as your friend.

Wow, not much else one can do then.
