And along with that - how long until people get called once scored, if we are to guess?

It depends on timing. I hit submit on my app and had an internal lined up to queue scoring the next week, with an invite email 10 days later. Others in my hiring group had their apps in for a year. YMMV.

For what its worth, they get 70 internal recommendations PER DAY, so that guarantees nothing other than that the app will be scored. (Overheard while when an employee hand delivered an a request while I was standing at the front desk during my interview).

If you have someone willing to do that for you, make sure your app is 100% ready when they submit their recommendation. It would be a waste to have it scored in any condition but perfect. Have a dozen people (or more), including the person submitting the recommendation, review it for errors. Everyone sees different things and can give you suggestions/corrections/improvements. Some suggestions may conflict, so take them all with a grain of salt and remember, it's your application.

Also, the recommending pilot doesn't need to use their '@delta.com' email address; their employee number is enough to prove their employment status.

There is an instruction document on dlnet that tells how to submit an internal pilot recommendation.

All -

I found this on another Delta thread. It was just posted today by a fellow new hire. When I was working on my ap last Spring this info would have been a gold mine so I thought I'd copy/paste it for you.

Cheers!

"The last day of Indoc, (last Thursday) OC Miller, (AK’s Boss) came in and talked to the class and gave us some interesting info. Here are some of my notes for those who are interested:

– Average age of the Delta pilot group right now is 57
– In 2014 Delta hired 1000 pilots.
– In 2015 it will be about 980 pilots.
– Over the next 15 years, Delta needs 8500 more just to cover attrition.
– They anticipate hiring at least 700 in 2016. He said this number changes almost weekly, and will likely go up, but as of now RA has approved at least 700.
– He also said about 700 per year is “where they like to be”, and that while it is possible to go over that number, it really puts “a strain on the system”
-Compass flow is over, leaving more slots for guys “off the street”
– Classes will be “front-loaded” in 2016, and then they will likely slow down through the summer months.
-Delta uses a “Tiered” application system. They have been, and probably will be for the next year or so, in “tier 1”
-They have 10,000 Applications on file.
*ALL APPLICATIONS ARE SCORED BY HAND. NOT BY A COMPUTER. *
*THERE IS NO WAY THEY CAN SCORE ALL APPLICATIONS WITH THE PERSONNEL THEY HAVE *
*”THE ONLY APPLICATIONS WE HAVE TIME TO LOOK AT RIGHT NOW, ARE THE ONE THAT ARE RECOMMENDED “INTERNALLY””*
(this holds true for everyone in my class. We all had someone send an “Internal Recommendation” in for us. That is, NOT the Airline Apps. way, but directly to the interview team.)
– Once you get scored, you are totally on your own. Even RA's personal blessing does not effect whether or not you get the score necessary for the interview.
-Once your app has been scored, they WILL NOT score it again for 12 months. (they just don’t have the resources)
-The recommendations associated with Airline Apps, are only looked at right before the interview. (does not help you GET the job once you get to the interview)
– If you get the “fix-it” email, then you fix whatever they asked you to fix, and you don’t hear back…that means you didn’t meet the cutoff score. Try again in 12 months.
Things that were mentioned as hurting your score:
– moving violations
-low GPA
-too long to finish education (more than 5 years)
-lose points for “online degrees”

-Delta pilots can recommend multiple people each year, but only once per year for each applicant.
– Financials at Delta are really good. i.e. 5 Bln in debt, as opposed to American at 22Bln.
– 21% on Profit Sharing this year.
– Delta makes 7% more RASM than competitors.
– Pilots should be more concerned about debt in prospective employers, as that translates into company stability.
– Greatest threat to the industry is the ME3. Not competitors."

So do these tiers consist of apps that have been scored by internal recs then, apparently?

They don't like online degrees huh? Sheesh. I'd put the one I'm in the middle of completing up against any brick and mortar school out there. Very rigorous. Not to mention trying to balance a family and work life while completing.

My online masters degree (1/2 way done, 4.0 GPA) is much tougher than my engineering degree from a state university was.

FWIW my application was horrible, blanks everywhere, missing GPAs, no volunteer time, job descriptions very short, did not have all of mil schools, etc. I did NOT get a fix it email
I had an APC member review my app and it changed it tremendously and then an EC review. About a week later (@ a little less than 6 months to available) I got an invite. This was about a month ago. I took 7 years to get my undergrad (working, having kids, and lost about a year of credits due to degree change). My undergrad GPA was 2.7. No letters of rec, no internal recs. Low time single engine attack pilot (about 1600 TT). I do have some unique things in my background. According to the gouge above I shouldn't have gotten an invite, I am very greatful for the invite. So for all those who haven't gotten an invite, the gouge is not always true.
