Thanks GJ. We live in DC, so she'll be flying out of here if possible, or New York. Looks like everything from here goes through CVG except AMS. Is there a problem booking multi-stop flights to a destination using the benefit (is there a better word for it?) And how far in advance can such a trip be booked?

Hard to non-rev if you are trying to go during Octoberfest, otherwise I'd say they'd have a pretty good chance!

That's the word I'm looking for--"non-rev". And roger that on Oktoberfest. Can we book a non-rev and then get bumped off it due to paying pax? I'll be booking a paid ticket to ensure she gets there, but I'd rather find a non-rev option if one's available.

First of all 2MuchAF, welcome. Secondly, you can book your non-rev stuff through travel net which will give you some idea of how many seats are available for flights and where you would be on the list. And yes, a paying passenger will bump a non-rev. It's purely space available, and flight loads can change quite a bit over a short time. Good luck!

If you are non-reving there are no guarantees! I've been in a seat at the gate and pulled off when a last second pax showed up. You will never know until you are about to push from the gate.

That being said, there are ways to look at the bookings and you should be able to get a good feel for whether or not they'll make it.

The key is to be flexible. You may have to drive to BWI, fly to atl, then catch the ATL flight to FRA. I just took two buds to Munich but we had to drive to an airport 80 miles away, then fly into Stuttgart, and then take a train to Munich. That's part of the fun!

Two more things...the international flights don't tend to get too many last second bookings from paying pax, but you will get some last second non-revs.

The good news is you will be above all retirees and buddy passes which really helps.

My bad. I assumed you'd be flying out of ATL. NYC would probably be your best chance of getting to FRA. (Or any of the other options mentioned above.)

RE: multi-segment flights. No, as long as you give yourself the connection time to check-in for the international flight.

RE: advance booking. You can book your flights the first day you have the flight privileges. Personally, if/when I'm non-revving somewhere, I usually wait until the week prior to see how the loads are looking. If you booked your FRA flights two months prior, then come to find out the flight is oversold a week or two out from the flight, you're duplicating work by having to delete old listings & re-list for your back-up options.

All that being said, Welcome! It'll all make sense in July.

OK, you said the magic words--"space available". Had a heinous (and extremely costly) experience using military space-A to Germany last summer , so I will probably not count on this at all since she has an 8-hour window to arrive in Heidelberg that we can't put at risk. I was a T-Tail guy for most of my career, so I know the system, but still got screwed badly. Thanks for the tips--I'll look at the options as the date draws near but I've got a bad feeling about it already.

Also, would I have to be flying with her to make this work in any case? I know, it will all make sense in July, but I'm just trying to figure if this is something I should even be considering. Thanks again for all the inputs.
