OK, you said the magic words--"space available". Had a heinous (and extremely costly) experience using military space-A to Germany last summer , so I will probably not count on this at all since she has an 8-hour window to arrive in Heidelberg that we can't put at risk. I was a T-Tail guy for most of my career, so I know the system, but still got screwed badly. Thanks for the tips--I'll look at the options as the date draws near but I've got a bad feeling about it already.

I non-rev about four times a month, for the last few, it has been a brand new ball game. Not for pansies. This week- TYS-ORD via LGA. You can do it, but you gotta be crafty. Sending the girl retail is your best idea yet. Welcome aboard, I think you'll have a terrific time. Plenty of time to non-rev when you get squared away.
If that's even possible on reserve... And I'm quite certain I'll have a terrific time. As my handle implies, I am beyond ready to be done with my current career, and completely thrilled about a new start at DAL!

I looked at tickets for my twins to travel CONUS this July--also with a small window to depart and arrive. I had a pilot friend look up Delta employee price in the market and it was only slightly cheaper than the online fare (around 700) so we used our frequent flyer miles to avoid the unknowns during busy summer weekend travel.

Another thing to think about is age. How old is she? Non dependent children who are still full time students can nonrev up to 23 YO, but you have to provide documentation of student status. At least the last time I looked at the rules that's what it said.
Best option when you don't have a lot of time and a definite deadline is to buy a ticket. Start now and you might could find a good deal.

If she's traveling in Sept, she should be able to get there on an S-2. May have to go a day or 2 early, and do a train or interline ticket. I went to southern France/northern Spain last Sept and took 4 buddy passers along. And of the twelve seats, only 2 got stuck in coach.
She's going to have to take a train to get to Heidelberg anyway. That gives you FRA,MUC,DUS,STR,ZRH,BRU. Lots of ways to get to CDG/AMS/LHR and then do an interline(used to be Zed fare) to FRA/STR.
As long as she's a little flexible on the days, she'll save a bunch of $s (S-2 only costs you the tax/fee, less than $100), sit in business class, get over the jet lag in a hotel that costs a fraction of the confirmed coach seat.
I've done probably a dozen European vacations, always May or Sept, and only had to sit in coach once.

Here is the latest and greatest on the spreadsheet. Some updates about the number of hires in the months of March through May, but I am still missing a lot of data. I only show 39 OTS left in the pool and maybe 100 flows. Probably 10 - 20 deferments. So call it 150 poolies left. With 100 in July and 50 in August, the pool will be closed.
Anyway, looking forward to starting soon.
Cheers,
Badger

Thanks Badger! 8/4 and 8/18 will be the August class dates. Based on 100 in June and 100 in July, Im seeing that people hired this week could potentially fill the 7/21 and 8/4 classes.
7 of 8 CJO on 20 May.
If anyone has yesterday's results, and today's when theyre announced, please let me know.

Good one Sir. I thought FTB was the only guy here who could put beer on our computer screen. Your advice is spot on as usual. Spend the money...go to Europe...Welcome to Delta. If it makes him feel any better, new hires today are the highest paid in our history...$30K more than my class. If it wasn't for Tsquare, I might have starved to death on more than one occasion. Cheers H

Apparently not a bad cook either. I like to see the newbies get a good start. On Capt report on S/O [end of probie] I used to give them the form to fill out, if it was too glowing, I would say "Now you are stuck living up to that the rest of your career."
