Herman, thanks for the kind words for an old man, I peek in the cockpit now and then...flash the shocker.. nothin'....they most usually call the F/A to help me find my seat.

Default New Hire Pilot Celebration Dinner

Looking for feedback from recent New Hires on the "Celebration Dinner" during Indoc and whether you thought it was worth it for your spouse to fly all the way to ATL for. For the military crowd, how does it compare to a Dining Out/Fighter Ball/Hail & Bail? Much to my surprise, I received a call for the 16 Jun class last week, which puts the Dinner right in the middle of our planned pack out from military base housing. Wondering whether it's really the sort of event that would rate reshuffling schedules and flying the wife all the way across the country & back for. Thanks

Let's put it this way: It's the last time the company will spring for dinner for you and your wife until your retirement cake.

This probably depends also on if she wants to come, or cares to come. Some people just may not care, others may think this is the most important thing in the world. I don't have a spouse, but I'd definitely want someone important in my life there. I'm hoping they'll let me take my mother.

It's a really nice event. It was a bit of a pain for my wife to make it but she was really glad she came, and I was glad she was there. They make it relatively easy by positive spacing her out & back.

The problem I face is ditching the kids on someone so we can both go, especially since they'll only pos space the wife. I suppose I could fly them all out and get a sitter. How easy do you guys think it will be to get them in the system and then non-rev them by the end of week 1? I have the wife and 3 kids, (5,3, new born). Worth it or no?

Perhaps you said it in jest, but don't plan on bringing mom. I asked to bring the girl I'd been dating for 7 years (now my wife) and the response was, "No ring, no dinner."

It is a nice dinner. RA showed up for ours. One guy even cried.

Unless the flights both ways are WIDE open, I'd strongly advise to not nonrev your three young kids. Summer travel is just beginning and the flights will be packed with long nonrev lists.

When was this? They let several in my class bring girlfriends & fiancees, and I heard there have been parents. As of 2 months ago.
