One of the great things about a sustained hiring period is that you continually have an influx of 'new guys' joining categories below you every few weeks. However, because of the Boom and Bust nature of 7ER flying, that good deal gets thrown off kilter. Because of the huge surge in summer international flying and the large contraction in the fall, it's no surprise that we saw large goups of new hires headed to the ER in the beginning of this year to make sure they were trained and in place for the summer schedule. Now that we are into the summer, you will likely see the new hire classes transition back to more narrow body offerings (I believe the latest was alll 88s) Therefore, anyone on the bottom now will likely remain there over the short term. Longterm, the 75/76 is looking at planes headed for the desert (though that schedule changes with the wind) and it is likely that over the next several years the category will shrink.

...Not just his opinion. Recent flight ops update said that 7ER block hours would be reduced over 30% this fall. As AEs occur, they won't backfill folks who transfer out. Anyone at the bottom of their category on ER is going to stay at the bottom for quite some time. Being overstaffed in the category, new hires won't get ERs (or at least not many); there will be little to no fill-from-the-bottom phenomenon.

I wonder if that means 8/3 is Compass only again. Hope not.

Agreed. But you want to know what...bottom of a category at Delta (especially if you are based at home) is still like hitting the lottery compared to other places in the industry.

I don't disagree. But based on one's priorities in their first 1-2 years of Delta employment, he or she needs to understand what seniority could look like in one category compared to another. If I were starting right now and had a choice, I'd definitely choose anything else over ER (ER may not even be a choice anyway). Just one person's opinion...

Emdeavor Air's program for Delta interview, it only applies for those at Endeavor. Shortened 1-day interview instead of 2-day. 4-yr college degree requirement waived.

It is however quite possible to see a bunch of new hires going to the ER next Spring for the summer schedule. 30% is within the norm for summer to winter job loss on the ER. It all depends on marketing and their block hour program.
