I am not a tax expert, but current IRS rules do not allow medical expenses to be deducted until they exceed 10% of your adjusted gross income. That is a lot of copays and prescriptions. If you use the FSA, the money comes straight off of your taxable income. At a 20% effective tax rate, you could save over $400 if you put $2250 into the FSA.

Thanks,

Hoping to get an invite for the March 7th class. July 9 CJO so it might be close. Fingers crossed will let you know if I hear something.

With the 10% threshold, FSA is good if you can't utilize the HSA, but it has the use it or lose it aspect of it, while the HSA carries over. That said, even if you over predict your spending with a FSA, you could still make out ahead if you lose some of it due to the tax savings. However, that might be a good time to stock up on FSA approved medical supplies.

All -

Many thanks for the opinions/experiences on Tricare and DAL healthcare options. Lots to read and consider. Retired AF and currently using TriCare Prime with an AF doctor. Thankfully blessed with good health, so far.
