100% correct. Hopefully you're a fairly young newer hire. We need that kind of thinking. This profession is being destroyed and it's only our fault. I'm worried for my next 20 years of this job. When I ask the "older" guys I fly with if their kids are or are going to be pilots and they say "oh god no. This job isn't what it used to be". And they still vote for these contracts I get so confused. We fly till 65 now longer harder days with continued decrease in work rules for less money than a decade plus ago...if you were management wouldn't you keep going with short term contracts? If this passes there has to be a bunch in the company looking at each other saying "holy s*£%...seriously again?"

Pure desperation.

I'm not sure how he can be so out-of-touch with the devastating concessions in this POS.

Do you seriously believe that we, or any labor group will ever get everything and give nothing? Call it concession if you want, but that is an emotional word that has certain connotations. Compromise is perhaps less so, and certainly means something of the same thing, but if you are going to vote no for anything that you see as a compromise/concession then you will be better off not to even read any TA and just vote no. Save yourself the angst and heart stress.

Bender we are highly skilled, highly specialized trade union workers. There is no cardinal rule out there that says every time you negotiate a pay raise you have to give something up. Your typical office worker gets a pay raise, but doesn't have to haggle with their boss in terms of lets say, having to work more hours, give up vacation or sick time, etc cwithout the ability to do something about it. They just get a pay raise. If the company starts pulling some of their benefits (since they are non union), they leave the company for a better company with better pay and benefits.

We, as you know, can't do that without starting at the bottom somewhere else. This is why we are so heavily vested in our job protections. Our scope. Our work rules. Our sick and health care. Our vacation. Our hours of service. It all matters more than just the pay raise itself.

If they offered us a contract extension with cost of living and inflation adjustments, it would be a drop in the bucket to the company. And even then, a contract extension isn't even a great thing considering were ALREADY operating under a CONCESSIONARY CONTRACT. But sadly that would be better than what were being offered right now.

No, Living in San Francisco and having your daughter murdered by someone that should have been in prison is devastating. This is a mere inconvenience. Regardless how this comes out, we are still in the top 5% or so of all wage earners in the country, and in the top 1% of the entire planet.

You're right on all counts. Of course I couldn't live in SFO without being in the top 5%.. but nevermind that.

Let's all just be content with our lot in life because hey we are 1%'ers after all.. Just like Richard.

I don't know about you Bender but I like nice things, and somehow or another I am always trying to improve my lot in life. Concessions of any sort do not make sense right now; save that for the next major downturn.
