We do not have a minimum. The FAs have a minimum, but I believe it's a 3 month minimum, i.e. They have to fly a minimum of X hours every 3 months. I think x is 45 hours, but not sure.

I have no idea why we're discussing it. Jerry brought it up, and stated that management hates it when a pilot drops down to zero. I'm saying that I don't think they care, because it can actually save them money.

Never forget, Management's JOB is to always get the most, for the least.
They want us to do the most flying, for the least pay/benefits, i.e. become "More Efficient".

The bankruptcy and now profit sharing, stock price, etc. seems to have changed DALPA's (and many pilot's) mind set. They now seem to want to do Management's job for them, and make us "More Efficient" vs. protecting (and restoring) OUR PAY AND BENEFITS!
From the top of ALPA National on down to our MEC level, they seem to have forgotten that they are 'blue collar' worker bees, not Management Wonks, and they seem to have forgotten WHO they are supposed to be representing.

The line pilots see this too, and that's why so few have bothered to spend the time to fill out the surveys.
The attitude on the line is, "Look how much good it did last time..." It would have been great if we had all taken screen shots of each page of the survey, then had the results compiled by a third party survey vendor. Man would that have made DALPA mad. Carl |

As strongly as we feel about the value of our profession, that value is set by the market, i.e., what someone is willing to pay us for our services and what we are willing to accept to perform them.
Our value is set by the power and influence of collective bargaining, not the free market system. The fact that you and so many others don't see that is disappointing and does not bode well. Carl |

No "clear cut answers." It hasn't been tried in our particular situation. The others who have tried restoration have done so in a very different environment from the one in which we find ourselves today.
As you say, a significantly more aggressive posture has not been tried in our situation, so there is no clear cut answer as to whether it would succeed. Ergo, my initial argument that calling those who would disagree with such a posture as being "misguided or dumb" is inappropriate. They may well be wrong, but that is no reason to malign them. |

And it is on the strategy that has been employed so far that there is disagreement. Some would argue that it has failed because we have not yet restored our compensation to what we had before. Others would argue that it has succeeded because we continue to lead the other mainline carriers.

We are going to continue to disagree. I believe it is extremely misguided and dumb in this situation to have no clearly stated restorative objective and, even worse, to act like you don't expect anything of the sort.
