But when you go into battle completely unprepared for war, any 'battle plan' you think you have isn't going to survive first contact. The MEC didn't train up the troops for war, hell, they didn't even hold an enlistment drive. This is the best 'battlefield' we have ever seen, and the MEC shows up armed with a white flag.
Why has the MEC NEVER added up all the Billions of dollars this pilot group's concessions has added to Delta's bottom line since LOA 46, 51 and DB plan elimination? Why has the MEC never spun up the Family Awareness Network, to educate and motivate this pilot group to DEMAND Restoration? This industry has finally pulled out of the downward spiral it entered back in 1978 with Deregulation, through consolidation and capacity discipline, what was 8 major airlines is now 4, and all of them have figured out that undercutting each other is just plain stupid. The industry is now making record earnings, with more to come, some of those 'earnings' are a direct result of our bankruptcy concessions. Yet not a peep out of our MEC about restoring us to pre-bankruptcy pay/benefit levels. Why do we even waste time with those surveys if; 1. the MEC is going to ignore them and claim they were unrealistic 2. We will never see what it was the pilot group actually wanted Once again, Richard is going to get us to fund any pay raises with profit sharing exchanges. Another Cost Neutral contact on the way. ME Black swans on the horizon. Got's to get into China Just give them some JV relief and they'll buy us more little airplanes to fly! Woo Hoo! Oh, and the Rush? Richard wants to be able to announce a TA at the June BOD meeting. SSDD. C2012 all over again. |
From Council 1 update 11 May
MEC Regular Meeting & Negotiations Update
The Delta MEC held a regular meeting May 4-7 at the Loews Hotel in Atlanta. This meeting was to conduct normal business and to take any necessary actions relative to contract negotiations. While the meeting was productive, we did encounter some issues related to our dual goals of “on time” and “on target,” also known as the process. Both are stated goals of the MEC, but we are beginning to see the potential conflict between the two with your reps feeling the need to slow the process down a bit. As we are still well ahead of the on-time goal, we must continue to ensure that the on-target goal is met. |

Two thoughts immediately sprang to mind when reading the Council 16 letter.
1) A battle plan crafted by Generals who know what they are doing survives first contact with the enemy. It sets the direction for the battle and with minor adjustments, leads to overwhelming victory. I want a different group of generals crafting my battle plans. 2) WE are MIKE TYSON in this ring, grow a pair and act like it. http://images.fineartamerica.com/ima...ebecca-dru.jpg Carl |

The strategic planning and "closed sessions" are now all about developing believable spin for the road shows. We have shown Delta management that if you provide a storyline to show that we've won (no matter how ridiculous and provably wrong), a 10-9 majority of Delta pilots will grab that storyline every time. We'll just continue to be upset and confused by our "Union" until we understand that we lost ownership. Only then can we develop a strategy to purchase our union back. Carl |
Some good news, I did just receive the first issue of Table Talk, the Family Awareness Program's new letter. I'm wondering why this wasn't sent out at least 6 months ago, with the Contract Comparison booklet we got back then.
I'm glad to see the MEC is finally thinking about Family Awareness, I fear it may be too little, too late however, if Richard gets his way this T/A may be done before the next issue of Table Talk goes to print. |

Got mine too. Lots of talk about the NMB and Railway Labor Act, but nothing much about our sacrifices or Delta's record profits.

I completely agree that the significant raises you seek are achievable. However, I believe they are achievable after 3-5 years of negotiations. Might as well take the rumored 25% raise over 3 years now since its going to take that long anyway.
Time value of money. If the contract is indeed 3 years, mathematically its very difficult to not leave money on the table turning down a contract so short. |

I don't know man. By a 10-9 margin, we're not Mike Tyson. We're this "guy":
