Between the 350 and 777 by 2020 we will have well over 1300 pilots staffing those two airframes. Hardly a few jobs. The 787 is the front runner to replace the 58 767ER's. Staffing will be lighter on those airframes with mostly 3 man verses 4 but still another potential 1200 to 1400 jobs.
Edit: Based on current 777 staffing my numbers are light. Probably over 1500 pilots will be required for the 777/350.
I love you man, but some 350's are delayed. And we have 18 777's that the company has described as a plane with nowhere to fly. Not getting to excited about the big plans. OTH, you know how many AMR and UAL actually have on the property and ordered. We just aren't a major player in the big airplane market. 787's, 50% of the current seniority list will be wearing Depends by the time they arrive.

Thank you for that info.

We get 5:15 a day.

AirTran pilots will get full retro as well. When SW purchased AT they negotiated a new contract with AT pilots which was approved by them. So while they were on the AT side of the partition they were under a current contract. On the SW side we were in negotiations on an expired contract. Once an AT pilot transitioned over to the SW side they were now working under an expired contract. They will receive all retro from the time they transitioned over to SW.

I have been watching the bantering back and forth on the wide body fleet etc. and I realize if your just looking at 777 I could see folks point on the small number of pilots likely to ever get to fly it, however I compiled the list of aircraft types and numbers comparing United to Delta and it doesn't seem to me that we are that far off when speaking in terms of large and/or wide body hulls. Including the 757's from both companies according to wiki...United has 286 wide body (including 757) aircraft while Delta has 283. United has orders for 33 additional wide body aircraft and we currently have 52 on the books. So it would seem to me that we have a fairly decent sized fleet and contract discussions amongst the wide body aircraft are certainly relevant. What am I missing?

The usual suspects are making this TA out to be not that big a deal. When you put more money on top of arguably some of the best work rules in the industry, it's a big deal. The company funded B plan is nice as well. Meanwhile, back here, we're trying to figure out how far backwards we need to take our work rules to get industry standard pay...sigh.
You guys want to work too hard. My favorite 3 days are 15:45 pay....block 3-5 hours. I'd rather get paid double for the hard block stuff. 140 credit on 80 block type months. Now that's what I call work rules.

Looking at the number of retirements coming up we have that many in Depends now.

Personally. I'm optimistic about the future of our international fleet with the combination of our excellent network planning team and future orders of 25 A350s and 25 330NEOs.

Most would probably point to the fact United and American have more pilots on the top pay scale than us, which has more to do with paybanding. If we had the 330 and 765 paybanded to top rate also we'd have similar numbers.

Twin Aisle jet totals:

DAL: 158
UAL: 175
AA: 148

If I can't get a bathroom break by 30 West, I'm good to go.
