He was very clear to say that they support the movement and not the organization. That no money collected as part of donations or fundraising will go to the blm organization(s).

The entire focus on the pin is showing support for the idea/concept and for the people that are and have been suffering.

Also, never was the blue lives pin or movement mentioned. Not once. That was a creation of angry Facebook users. You'd have to ask what their position is on blue lives matter, because it literally wasn't mentioned once. I would suspect that at this time a pin for them isn't authorized.

And I would like to see where you got the idea that 3/4 of Delta's customer base stands opposed to blm or for blue. That sounds like a hyperbolic overestimation based on angry internet tirades

Delta/Endeavor can be as clear as they want with their employees about the movement vs/ the organization. For as hyper image conscious as Delta is, it's a bit surprising to see them taking this stance on something so polarizing. Regardless of how you feel about BLM, if you take a stand either way, you're going to upset a lot of people. Broadcasting your support for BLM the most politically expedient thing to do right now. Personally, I would stay neutral. Take an all or nothing stance about political statements in uniform, but I'm not EB or DG. I would stick to not allowing any political statements in uniform.

Delta has taken a different approach, supporting whatever is "popular" at the moment. We'll see how it pans out in the long run. I keep politics off my flight deck. As long as I am not forced to support or say anything I don't agree with on behalf of DAL/EDV and my checks still clear the bank, I'll keep flying my airplane.

Now THIS is a well reasoned counter point. This is the best counter argument I've heard. And while you may take my post to mean I'm 100% in favor of the Delta/9E stance, I am actually on the fence for the reasons you mentioned. I completely agree that any political statement endorsed by the company makes it a more complicated and distracting environment. I can understand this sentiment.

However, I also believe that some causes are worth standing up for, and it's encouraging to see corporations take a stand for a cause that at it's core is about equal rights. But that's my personal opinion.

There are ways to have conversations about this stuff though where it doesn't the evolve into a left verse right boxing match. If it's a reasonable discussion discussion between two people trying to find common ground that's probably what Delta is trying to accomplish. If not, let's talk about sports..

For sure. We all stand to gain from reasonable discussion. I hope DAL/EDV know what they're doing. Customer perception and sentiment mean a lot. My check depends on people paying money to fly with us. Hopefully not too many are alienated.

The pins in question are pretty small. Unless a passenger spent effort looking for it, I doubt they'd notice given the limited amount of time in which they have face-to-face contact with us. I don't see it being an issue.

I think Delta is taking a stance on BLM because it benefits everyone. People with a fundemental misunderstanding of the movement (or people just looking to be angry at something today) may choose to take issue, but if you bother to actually talk to black people about what it means to them, you will have a better understanding that living in a society where “black lives matter” means living in a society where *all* lives are valued equally. It’s really not that polarizing or threatening, unless you’re just someone who gets off on feeling victimized and being angry.

... which is like 70% of APC, I guess...

This is an excellent point. Because people (opposition) are ignorant, uninformed, or misinformed about the purpose of a movement is no reason to not support it.

Furthermore, there is essentially no ONE blm organization. There are many. Some still maintain the basic original goals, some have expanded to much more controversial stances. Like the civil rights movement of the 60's, there are many different voices with many different goals. And you could support the methods of MLK while distancing yourselves from Malcom X. Many did.

Supporting the BLM movement means different things to different people, but I think what Delta is saying here is that we recognize there is a problem and we're not going to be complicit in it. We need to have more honest discussions than what have been playing out. But that's my interpretation.
