I wouldn't rule out LGA there's probably 8-10 flights per day. Easy walk to a Crashpad.

Question that I couldn't answer for a new hire...

Is it true that if you call in sick for a trip, you lose all the premium credits from other pick-ups that month?

No. You loose premium pay until you pick up an equal number of credit hours as you dropped/called, after that you will get premium credit,

No. Let's say you picked up 15 hours but called off for 10 hours in the month. You would only get premium pay for 5 hours.

Wow so if you call out for a four-day trip worth 25 hours, have picked up 15 hours, that month, then YES, you lose all the premium pay for that month. So in essence, you get penalized for being sick. Yes?

You're not getting penalized for being sick? Premium pay is for extra work, if you actually work less why would you expect to get paid for extra?
You're not actually penalized at all for being sick, but you're only going to get paid for work you actually do (plus sick time you had available).

Still getting penalized unless they aren't going to count that sick call as one of your sick events, and I'm betting it still eats into your sick bank.
This needs to be addressed.

This is due to folks calling is sick for a 25 hour trip, opening up far 117 limits, then picking up 150% on days off. It may seem like a penalty, but if you call is sick when sick, and pick up when it's convenient, the 2 won't likely intersect. Some were using their sick banks as "pay banks" and this caused junior assignments and extensions to cover the flying, while said pilot was picking up premium flying. Other pilots suffered. If you are sick, call in sick. If you pick up flying later in the month and have to call is sick, you (as stated) will be working at straight time until you meet your sick call, but it's still more money compared to your original line and you still get 100% of your awarded line (provided you have the sick time).

If there is no better advice from personal experience to give, it's DO NOT call in sick unless you are sick. Not saying fly sick, saying don't view sick time as additional vacation or off time. You never know when you will actually need it, and when you do, it's gold.
