I don't have an answer to your question but had to ask, if you were to be able to be contacted through ACARS regarding something at home, what would you be able to do with that information?

No, cant and wont happen, that's what your cell phone is for. Also company not allowed to notify via acars (official) of any schedule change or reassignment, etc as per contract.
Got an iPhone dont you, then you get free messaging on our flights, let family notify you that way.
Your still going to work the flight back to the hub.

This. Why would they need to relay through dispatch? Nothing can be done in flight. If they need to get ahold of you asap, that's what a text or voicemail is for when you get on the ground.

That would certainly be a conflict with safety. Imagine being notified that an emergency is happening at home. Your mind is immediately diverted from the task of flying the aircraft. You have a responsibility to the people on that airplane.
