Just because there is a shortage of pilots doesn't make it okay to hire anyone with a pulse, ala PSA and Mesa.
So where do the "High and Mighty" pilots such as yourself work? I'm sure you're gods gift to aviation. So many DB's on here!

I was hired at eagle in mid 2007 without an interview and $5000 sign on bonus that I believe was exclusive to my flight school. Granted I'm God's gift to aviation but they've hired a bunch of 300 hour newbies with the ink still wet on their certificates. Real selective huh? All regionals are the same since I see tools from all airlines on apc, mine included.

I'm very familiar with all the "bridge" programs and the like from that time period, and no one got hired without an interview, medical examination, and a thorough investigative background check, no matter how much flight time they had. Standards were lowered eventually somewhat, but to nowhere near the level of PSA or Mesa.

But, yes, tools unfortunately fell through the cracks here like anywhere, but luckily the cracks seem to be narrower here.

Whatever happened to Tim Martins? Didn't he start his illustrious career at Eagle?

When are we going to stop viewing regionals as a stepping stone? There should be absolutely no reason one cannot make this a career choice, but we need to come together to make that happen.

Thank you Envoy, Republic, and Express jet for making the effort. PSA, you guys deserve the contract you're stuck with. A serious question to PSA guys, do you even get COLA raises at the top of the pay scale, or is that it? If the last raise you get as an FO stops at 4 years, at $30 whatever it is, you're going to have a hell of a time paying bills. I hear mom and dad's basement is nice this time of year.

If I see Envoy/Expressjet/Republic guys on an overnight the beer is on me.

Default Couple of questions...

Serious questions... (No really, cuz I'm a noob)

I thought the 1500 hour rule for 121 just kicked in last month (meaning all FOs had to have a min 1500 or some type of restricted ATP to fly). Before that couldn't you be a FO with 300 hours or so?

(1) What was the average TT for a new FO 20 years ago (prior to 9/11 and a busted market)?
(2) What was the average for guys 5 years ago when everything was stagnant?

Because that was not the intent of outsourced work that regionals are supposed to do. There is absolutely a huge reason why one cannot make a regional career choice, see Envoy and Comair as evidence. Regionals are all competing with each other for the same legacy flying and it's all a matter of who can do it cheapest. Todays regional winners can easily become tomorrows losers and vice versa. Can you peg a 30+ year career on that bet?

There is a COLA raise every year. It's not enough to cover the actual COLA but it is there.

An FO at PSA will have a higher number on their W2(with more days off) at 42ish/hour than any other regional at 47/hour......

But hey, at least everyone else is flooded with internet beers.
