There is definitely discrimination going on at Legacy carriers. People say look at the numbers, 90% + hired are white males! Yeah.. But look closer at the percentages getting hired from each group applying. It is highly biased. There is thousands and thousands of highly qualified apps with (non military) white male pilots. Maybe 2 in 10 highly qualified applications even get a call, ever, from a legacy. Now look at the minorities and women. 8 or 9 out of 10 of them applying get calls before everyone else, when they shouldn't even be considered because they aren't competitive (at white male standards). Nearly every one of them I know hired at Legacy carriers over the last 3 years has been under qualified compared to others hired, many of them had failures, training problems, and zero PIC time.. and a fraction of the total time of many Captains with perfect records. The networking part is total BS. Most Everyone is going to job fairs and networking with volunteer time and all the boxes checked.
I know a girl here that recently busted 2 training events, got hired a Legacy with less than 4k total time. Zero PIC. They would laugh at a white males app like that and throw it in the trash. Meanwhile tons of guys with 10k TT, 3-4k PIC, perfect training records, internal recs, yada yada yada still not getting even so much as an interview call... Black FO friend of mine with NO DEGREE just got hired at a Legacy. Zero PIC, only around 4k total time. Again, white male app with no degree and no PIC, straight into the trash can. Yup, no reverse discrimination going on.. Lol
If that really was the case, and the Legacy carriers were 100% blind to the applications and couldn't see gender or race when looking over apps. I would be interviewed over the majority of them getting hired lately 10 times out 10. (IF it really was blind to that). All the Captains around me busting their butt to get an interview would be called over them too. I have twice their time, way more experience, plus outside aviation experience, 4 type ratings, years of TPIC, perfect training record, no failures ever, 2 degrees, 3.9 GPA, been to multiple job fairs, have tons of internal recs, even have an internal Legacy CP rec, years of volunteer time. Yet not even a phone call for an interview at a big 3 carrier. Lots of people around my seniority are in exactly the same boat.
Look, it's annoying but, it is what it is, but to say it isn't VERY much still going on is just being extremely naive with no situational awareness. HR departments do it so they get to check their affirmative action boxes off to avoid getting sued. While the rest of us just roll our eyes every time we see some far less qualified person from a select group updating their facebook page with a Legacy start date. It keeps happening over and over and over again. It's not a fluke or luck when it's a regular "predictable" occurrence.

As much as I hate to say it, I agree. Qualified pilots are a dime a dozen at the major level, they're everywhere. They all have the same quals, good records, good PIC, and the vast majority are good people. They'd fit in just fine and be terrific legacy carrier pilots.
Look at it this way; all things being equal, the computer just can't choose. They're going to have to program it to look for other qualities. Chief pilot? Check airman? IOE instructor? These are worthwhile qualities to have on a resume. Military? A shoo-in.
Then you check the boxes for the things I really dislike. Those scams they call job fairs, taking your money because they know you're desperate to claw your way to the top. Volunteering. Great if you're at an airline with schedule allowing you the time to do so and you don't have family obligations.
So with thousands of pilots checking off the same boxes, who gets a couple extra "points" that can push them over the top relative to everyone else?
All that said, it's just the way the system is set up. Nothing to do except keep plugging away and do the work. It does benefit to do so, the problem is that everyone else is doing the same thing and more competitors are added to the field every month.

A. Unpark their older E170s and use them in that market..or
B. Shift E175s from either JFK or MIA.
The E170s are dead in the water and Republic can't get rid of them fast enough. There may have even been a clause in their bankruptcy settlement about parking them.
So option B is the most likely. Now, JFK or MIA? Republic is already becoming scarce in MIA with Envoy taking over much of the flying as it is. They have already shifted most of their aircraft out of there even before this announcement.
So...what do you think?
