Mesa would be the easiest choice if you wanted to be based at home. Short reserve time and no 50 seaters. When the oil prices go up or a downturn in the economy they will be the first to go. Last bid we had mid 2015 hires upgrading. I still have friends hired in 2011 at eagle still on reserve! I would take the 10 dollars less per hour to have a decent line and have a life outside of work. Eventually mesa will have to provide a better contract.

Neither?
If I were picking an airline right now, I'd be looking at Endeavor, Piedmont, or CommutAir. Go to whichever one has the easiest commutable base. If your in the DFW area there will be plenty of flights to get to and from work.
Mesa has the worst pay in the industry and their quick upgrade ship has already sailed, and Envoy is ultimately going to shrink and you will be on reserve for quite some time. If you want to go to an AAG wholly owned right now, go to Piedmont. I know 2 guys at Mesa, one a winter 2014 hire and the other a spring 2015 hire, both are trying to leave.

Envoy, hands down. The shrinking has stopped and flowing 30/month off the top has things moving finally. You'll be on reserve a bit longer, maybe a year at most, but doing it from home is cake. Your iPad will be paid for, and there's a $5000 sign on bonus, unlike Mesa.

Envoy. It's a no brainer if you live in DFW. Go to Mesa if you want the quick upgrade. But you'll be trying like heck to get out of there in the next few years applying at Frontier, JB, and Spirit. Then after a few years there, a major might take a look at you if you're lucky. Go to Envoy now, and no commute with a good quality of life living in base. Sit back and wait for your flow in 6 or 7 years. No applications, interviewing and luck trying to get on with a LCC after getting abused by Mesa for a few years under terrible management. I did the Envoy flow to AA route and have no regrets. Loved my time at Envoy living in base being home with my family. Most of my buddies chasing that quick upgrade etc are commuting for a LCC job now with their apps in at the big 3 hoping for an interview some day. One out of 16,000 applications at the majors. A few have made it, but their quality of life and marriages paid for it chasing the quick upgrade job and jump to a LCC.

They guy doesn't want to commute. Jr base is ORD at envoy. It will take a while before he can hold DFW. There are several guys hired last year waiting to go back to DFW.
If he wants to be DFW based quickly I would go to Mesa, if he wants a career backup then I would choose Envoy. Commuting out of DFW is a pain specially if you're not a WO.
