Flight time means:
(1) Pilot time that commences when an aircraft moves under its own power for the purpose of flight and ends when the aircraft comes to rest after landing;
Landing is required to log flight time.

PS My take on the subject is smack "down the middle" - I've argued with both the people who support "no landing, no logging" as well as "I was doing engine run up, so that's loggable".
Here's a letter of interpretation you might find interesting

And yet the FAA counts that time.

Exactly...
14 CFR 61.51.e.1.(i) a sport, private, commercial, *airline transport pilot* may log flight time whenever the pilot is the sole manipulator of the controls of the aircraft for which the pilot is *rated*, or has sport pilot privileges for that category and class of aircraft, if the aircraft class rating is appropriate, or when (ii) The pilot is the sole occupant of the aircraft.
Many usefulness of flight time without taking off and landing.
OP, not take anyone’s word for it speak to you local FSDO, they’ll tell you the same thing.
Your fine logging it. It’s known. But good educational opportunity to check with your local FSDO/local DPE, company Check Airmen/CPO.

Looking at the prelim results, there’s a guy hired on April 2017 that got awarded captain. No previous 121/135. Did all his hours with Envoy. So his upgrade time was 1year and 6months. Less than advertised by the company (finally haha), it think they advertise 2.5yrs

Tried searching but couldn’t find it.
Can you be assigned a non CDO trip on a CDO standby or rap? I understand if the companies in a pinch and need someone to do it they would. But wondering if this is common or if anyone has had it happen.

Christ, how many times do you think the "but...but the FSDO/local DPE/check airman/CPO said I was legal" defense has averted/reversed an enforcement action?
The Office of The Chief Counsel is the *ONLY* entity that can provide the BINDING interpretation of regulation. That's it.

If a "Letter of Interpretation" from the FAA's Chief Legal Counsel doesn't exist covering the matter you're unsure about, you've no choice but to ask that one's written...or simply HOPE your understanding is solid...
