They were fat to pre staff for the 9 jet deliveries in june 7 in July... staffing by fall will be “normal”.

They were purchased by Republic and ownership was transferred to United in bankruptcy. The 12 newest 175's at Mesa were also ordered by Republic and transferred to United and then finally Mesa and may possibly be coming back to Republic if they ever leave Mesa.
I doubt Republic cares whether we own the plane or United.

If it isn’t obvious, it is better to own the aircraft than United since moving a CPA would include finding both pilots and airframes.

The last United Express E175s to go to Republic were purchased by United. Republic is now partially owned by United (and Delta, American, Embraer, and GE). SkyWest does operate over 2 dozen aircraft that are owned by the mainline partner (although it is a fraction of their overall fleet).
Those specific 12 at Mesa might not be coming back since they are on a 5 year CPA. But, the first 30 Ejet have CPA’s that are expiring starting next year.

Mesa right now is on a 6-7 month training period for new hires on the Ejet.
But absolutely, the regional owning the aircraft helps prevent the whipsaw from happening. However, I just think Republic is at the mass were they gladly take aircraft without having ownership of them if they can get a long enough contract for them.

Yes they are, but I've been told those are also the planes that are sitting down off the 33's in IAH. There is at least 6 sitting there visible and I have heard they have up to 10-12 in total parked. The rumor I keep hearing is that the new planes could be yanked from Mesa and United is actively searching for a new operator for them.

Go to any major maintenance base and you will see jets at the maintenance hangar.
I can’t really speak to the training profile. We are more than covering our flying with FO’s. We are short CA’s, but it only takes 3 weeks for an FO to be in IOE for an upgrade (175 to 175).
It will be interesting to see who gets these 175’s. 5 years ago, Mesa wasn’t flying any. Now, our COO indicates we are in the running for these 25.

Mesa should take a long look at the Endeavor contract and get into the the game instead of lowering the bar and hoping to get more planes. As for Xjet, as long as Skywest owns Xjet they will never get the 70 flying.
Xjet picked up hours Mesa couldn't fill in March and before numerous times. Republic opened a IAH summer base in 2018 to alleviate Mesa and the flying they can't handle. Xjet losing pilots to United, over 20 in June alone and probably many more elsewhere after last bonus expires in Sep.
It seems Mesa is having troubles flying and needed help, with that Mesa contract and culture isn't hard to wonder why. Xjet has been being replaced by 70 flying for some time now. Xjet pilots busy moving out and over to United to care.

Mesa did have a problem earlier in the year, but we replaced our Director of Training and we have been gaining pilots month over month since.
Republic and Mesa have been picking up Xjet flying. Funny thing about having to publish numbers in publicly available disclosures. Xjet has lost 28% of its pilots since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, Mesa has added 129 pilots in IAH over the same period.

From: I pilot
He said there was nothing special about the CRJ with respect to ASE and that Skywest was briefing a no-go around approach in certain circumstances for that field. Perhaps a Skywest guy can speak to this, but I was told that below a predefined altitude, if they lost an engine, it was briefed that they would land no matter what. If the runway was closed suddenly, then they would land on a taxiway.
When I asked about doing the same thing as skywest with our jets, I was told that it was a "union issue". That "skywest could put the best pilots on the ASE flights" and that our union wouldn't allow us to have a special group that is qualified separately. (yeah, it's a union problem, LOL) It was determined that "no go around approaches" were outside our risk profile and that we would exit the ASE market as the Q400s left the fleet.

IF XJT was able to get this flying, and that’s a yuge IF, it would turn the place around overnight. The floodgates would open here. Why would anyone work at a cockroach shop like MESA when they could work at a good company where English is the primary language. 175’s would do to XJT what has happened at Envoy. Just a few years back they had a dim future and long upgrades.

Looking at the the vast difference between the Republic contract and the Mesa contract, heck almost anyone else's contract. I am surprised that anyone is going to Mesa. What an enormous difference!
