Mesa owns 30 of the 60 that we have, and the 20 we have purchased. That are still coming in September instead of May. We also own our 700's. We (recruitment team) just received email to resume interviews. I don't know how or why we are resuming interviews especially since we are about to hit the worst upcoming weeks with convid-19, clearly they (upper management) got thumbs up from the top, meaning United we will be around for a min. When this blows over. I know no one knows, what will happen. I do know all of our CEOs are talking and discussing and strategizing for the future. The decisions and actions that happen October 1, 2020. Are being made RIGHT NOW. Hopefully your hiring teams are looking to start interviewing and hiring soon to.

The reason there was a possibility of one list at CoEx was Continental, Continental Micronesia, and CoEx were all under the same ownership, but separate divisions. CAL and CAL Micronesia had a common seniority list in spite of being separate divisions. CoEx could have had a common seniority list as well, which would have aligned it similar to CAL Micronesia. What was different then vs now is then after 5 years at CoEx you had the chance to flow to CAL. There weren’t many people who had more than 5 years of seniority at CoEx unless they were deferred to staff 145 CA.
Many people think having regionals bid against each other saves money, but when those regionals can’t staff and planes have to be moved around I bet those savings dry up fast. Once the majors furlough for this downturn it will only drive more people away from learning to fly. When things turn around attracting pilots to work for crappy regionals will be even more difficult than it was just months ago. This downturn will be a game changer and all legacy airlines will have to consider the long term effects of their decisions just as much as they look at the short term gains.

I think a lot of people will be afraid to fly for a while.

I was responding to the question of “wouldn’t UAL guys be furloughed?”
In the scenario I describe, they most likely wouldn’t be. The bottom portion of the ones who are stapled would be.
(itsajob stated it better than I did. Basically the same outcome is most likely coming....so improving the product as well as defining a clear path to one list seems better than nothing)

The word coming out of our negotiations prior to all of this crap was mainline scope protections on the top and bottom end of United flying. Consolidating express feed and stapling is a win all the way around, and would be a great answer to future recruitment efforts as well.
