? Family issues probably means "resigned to spend more time with his family... in lieu of termination".

Yup, there is a lot more to that little story than I am sure he would ever speak of!

But, There’s something to be said about the guys who stayed at express for life, never missed the holidays or kids events, and got the schedule they wanted.
I am with you. A furlough from a major airline is temporary.

Or don’t. Gut your gains in a race to the bottom to protect your job. What narrow vision.

Sorry if this offends y'all, but regional lifers should be an oxymoron. It was never supposed to be that way. It was never supposed to be a place that "one could stay if they choose". Staying at a regional, blocking others from upgrading and getting their TPIC to move on messes up the whole business model, thus putting XJT in the high priced/cost predicament they're in today. Sure, downturns happen which could prolong your time at a regional, but to have that many 20 year regional lifers is outrageous.

For senior folks who have families to support and no other skill (or haven't used their other skill in decades) this is a desperate situation. Hard to blame them if some folks opt for concessions under the circumstances.

While I see significant and heartening sentiment industry-wide to hold the line in the face of furloughs, a liquidation with permanent job loss is a different wolf at the door. The soon-to-furloughed major pilots can somewhat safely assume there's a light and recall at the end of the tunnel. Might get recalled to a different paint job, but still probably getting recalled.

I have a feel CommutAir has the slight advantage over us? When are we supposed to know the outcome? Surely the decision has already been made and just hasn’t been announced yet.

this is an unprecedented downtown where a pilot whose company becomes liquidated may very well be without a job in this field for years. Covid is much more daunting industry wide than 2008 or 2001. Also they’d be starting from scratch without their seniority, longevity and etc. the “Standing up for the team” maybe be a noble thought but there’s absolutely no leverage or a plan B unless that plan be involves getting out of the industry completely. While no one wants it and there’s no time to take concessions anyways, it actually makes sense. Worst part is that we’re only in this situation because of a Kirby whipsaw. Also if someone saying XJT should stand strong and die vs taking concessions they have no room if they work at many of the regionals that have weaker contracts/pay.

UAL announcement supposedly coming July 31st from what I’ve been reading. No one in management has said a word.
