We can talk solidarity and staring down barrels all day long, but it's all a crock bc we have no leverage, at least not right now. For the love of God quit tilting at windmills.

This ^^^^^^ our fate is already sealed. I dont think paycuts save us. And even if they could, should we really consider them? At best it buys us a little time, which is understandable, but what's the long game here? Years and years of stagnation and misery? United either wants us as a partner, or doesn't. And I say this as one of the "lifers". I'm not working for less at this point, plan B is underway, as anyone who has spent way too many years at a regional should already know!
Good luck to all.......

You think every qualified pilot will make it to a major? You have NOOOO clue. Some will make some won't period. Yes try to check the boxes if you can. Make your self marketable. Set yourself up for success I agree. It's no guarantee you will make it. I use to be you 23 years ago. ERAU grad cream of the crop. I tried military, two tall waiver needed. Went to charter and flight instruction. Built some hours multi engine hours. Interviewed at Colgan. First step right. Well guess what September 11, happened. Sucked. NO AIRLINE JOBS. I went to corporate. 2007 started putting apps out there competing with military guys at the time. Went to job fairs, hustling. Had two interviews lined up at Continental Express and Pinnacle. 2008 Economics threw a curve ball. Guess what NO AIRLINE JOBS. I stay corporate for stability. 2015 hits over 8000 hours of flight time most of it corporate. I once again throw apps out. jetBlue calls tells me yes would love to have me but now the issue is no 121 time. Ughhhh. I apply to regionals. Mesa only with no reserve time. I jump over here expecting to be here a year TOPS. I reapply to jetBlue countless times, crickets. I interviewed at Frontier, Spirit, United twice, on-site interviews with FedEx and UPS. 13000 hours flight time over 70% jet time. Great track record, no DUI, degree, I interview well, polished, charming, funny, Mr by the Book. You get to where I am and see you write. "Look in the mirror to whom to blame". Maybe you got lucky and got the dream job. Cudos to you. I'm closer to the backside of this career than I am the front side. I've been like others hit with unfortunate career road blocks. I look in the mirror and say I gave it a good run and still will give it a run. Before you start judging, understand the dynamics of this industry. Some will make it some won't. Period
2004-05 and 2010-2012 were classes twice a month everywhere. Did you get your height waiver? Military has been in a pilot deficit for over a decade.
Hate to kick a dude when he’s down and all, but that many interviews and no dice...?

or worse than that, the guys who never tried anywhere because they didn’t want to learn another plane, couldn’t afford the pay cut, were pretty senior in their base, I make enough here, or whatever other random excuse they had for not moving on.

I’m not taking it personally, but I just have to vent again: why is there is so much animosity toward an airline pilot with 25 years (or whatever) in at an airline - just because they don’t fly heavy equipment? Our airplane is about the size of a G5 - would everybody throw shade on a 25-year G5 captain because he/she didn’t “move on?” You shouldn’t say that being a 777 captain is the only legit civilian flying job out there, and anything else represents laziness or ineptness. Building a long career anywhere should be respected and rewarded, and might have even been done by choice due to whatever that person’s family situation is. Attitudes like yours help undermine our industry because it says that any job less than heavies over the ocean is a stepping stone and nobody should be there - repeating the industry lie since 1978.

It’s not about the equipment you fly, but who you fly it for. Moving up to a Legacy/LCC/Cargo offers not only higher pay but much greater stability. A 25 year G5 captain is probably well established in a stable corporate flight department or at NetJets. A career pilot at a regional is always at risk of his company losing their contract, and even wholly owned are not immune (Comair, ASA).
My dream airline job would be living in base flying mostly turns on the Bus or Guppy with the occasional overnight in a warm location close to an aqua colored body of water. Long haul international is fatiguing and slightly boring once you’ve coasted out. That’s what makes a job at a legacy so prized, there is something for everyone.

or the FOs who only bid minimum lines, bypass upgrade, resting on their laurels. nothing wrong with doing that, just a bit short-sighted to do that and then expect to get hired somewhere else.

NGPA is easy, you just have to join, don't have to claim any particular status. They can't ask anyway, or make you prove it either way. Wife and kids doesn't mean you're not gay/bi/? . Worked for a friend of mine, for which I give him endless grief to this day.
