I know that story. There is a ton more to it than that. PM me if you'd like details

While I see significant and heartening sentiment industry-wide to hold the line in the face of furloughs, a liquidation with permanent job loss is a different wolf at the door. The soon-to-furloughed major pilots can somewhat safely assume there's a light and recall at the end of the tunnel. Might get recalled to a different paint job, but still probably getting recalled.
Correct on both counts. The soon to be furloughed major pilot should encourage holding the line so she can come back to a high paying job.

The senior regional pilot with a family and no side hustle facing a liquidation is backed into a pretty nasty corner. Even if this hypothetical pilot had other skills, there isn’t a robust job market in any industry right now. There are markets where nurses can’t find work, which is insane and defies all logic.

Sure, downturns happen which could prolong your time at a regional, but to have that many 20 year regional lifers is outrageous.

Maybe UAL should offer a flow, staple or actually hire someone qualified from the Aviate program and it wouldn’t be so clogged up.

On the hold the line sentiment. If ALPA was half the union it thought it was it would be a lot easier to do so. If unions at ULCCs LCCs and majors would say i got you fam and put said group on a shortlist for hiring. Or if regionals had a default time served that let you start not getting fkd with newbie FO pay.

Or we could have one list and the only people getting furloughed would be people new to the industry. .... Nope every man for themselves gotta protect that chance at 330 dollars am hour.

you won’t NEED to fall on your sword....the headsman’s sword is sharp and wielded. Concessions can’t possibly achieve what’s being asked of y’all. Sucks.

Agreed, which is why my original post specifically stated I can understand their willingness and harbor no ill will. This reply was specifically to a claim that EV pilots holding the line is somehow a grandiose and meaningless gesture.

A scenario where EV guts their CBA and somehow gets below C5, resulting in C5 being shuttered would set the entire profession back. This isn’t just about regionals, the cost gap was closing to the point that whipsaws and outsourcing were losing their appeal, consolidation and even mild insourcing was happening. That was important to every pilot from student to 777 CA.

Here again I will reiterate that I can understand the impossible dilemma laid at senior EV pilots feet, but we shouldn’t lose perspective of the context and far reaching scale of such decisions.

As a pilot with a family to take care of. My ability to put food on the table and keep a roof over their head is primary, the needs of the profession are secondary if not lower.

Lets say XJT comes down to right above or even to match commutair, how does that drag down the industry as a whole when Mesa, commutair, air Wisconsin, Gojet and the former trans states are already on that level. It’s been one thing to lower the standard it’s entirely different to match the brand average.

Mostly true, except if the airline said person is furloughed for ceases to exist.

Less likely with a major than a regional. Still this sucks.
