Every captain is maxed out on pay, vacation, you name it.

You can't pay cut your way out of that.
sure you can, you reset everything to year 3 levels- pay, vacation 401k. You may rather fold, but it’s not impossible

Knew someone transitioning from the 175 that said their class got cancelled halfway through as of last week or so

The smaller regionals like AWI, commute air and maybe go-jet? Aren't likely to make it. I believe its because they are small and it requires to much accounting and resources on UA's behalf. XJet easily has the planes and staffing to take over whatever flying those guys currently have.
Plus UA bought all those 145's from trans states and at this point, its either fly them or take a loss. Probably better to just keep them going.
Whatever furlough's the company is prepping for will probably be short lived or not at all.
One things for sure come October 1st the airline industry is gonna be a replay of the movie "300".
I love the fact that people give their opinions and have no clue whats going on. All of the 145's that are operated by UA were all bought by Continental and transferred to UA when they merged. They have a ton of 135/145's in the desert that are paid for as well. The TSA, XJT and C5 145's were all UA birds and they can move them freely to whoever they want to.

Anything is possible. Everyone can go back to year 1 FO pay with 1 week vacation to save the company. Or not.

That’s like saying I asked a hot chick from work out and she said no. So I’ll just be single forever.
You think every qualified pilot will make it to a major? You have NOOOO clue. Some will make some won't period. Yes try to check the boxes if you can. Make your self marketable. Set yourself up for success I agree. It's no guarantee you will make it. I use to be you 23 years ago. ERAU grad cream of the crop. I tried military, two tall waiver needed. Went to charter and flight instruction. Built some hours multi engine hours. Interviewed at Colgan. First step right. Well guess what September 11, happened. Sucked. NO AIRLINE JOBS. I went to corporate. 2007 started putting apps out there competing with military guys at the time. Went to job fairs, hustling. Had two interviews lined up at Continental Express and Pinnacle. 2008 Economics threw a curve ball. Guess what NO AIRLINE JOBS. I stay corporate for stability. 2015 hits over 8000 hours of flight time most of it corporate. I once again throw apps out. jetBlue calls tells me yes would love to have me but now the issue is no 121 time. Ughhhh. I apply to regionals. Mesa only with no reserve time. I jump over here expecting to be here a year TOPS. I reapply to jetBlue countless times, crickets. I interviewed at Frontier, Spirit, United twice, on-site interviews with FedEx and UPS. 13000 hours flight time over 70% jet time. Great track record, no DUI, degree, I interview well, polished, charming, funny, Mr by the Book. You get to where I am and see you write. "Look in the mirror to whom to blame". Maybe you got lucky and got the dream job. Cudos to you. I'm closer to the backside of this career than I am the front side. I've been like others hit with unfortunate career road blocks. I look in the mirror and say I gave it a good run and still will give it a run. Before you start judging, understand the dynamics of this industry. Some will make it some won't. Period

I think it’s clear then, it wasn’t directed at those, like you, who keep trying. There are those who tried their “dream” airline, didn’t get it, started sulking, and went no further in their efforts. It sounds to me that’s who j1180’s comment was directed at.

Exactly. 100%

And For the record I spent 14ish years at xjt, 6 in the right seat and logged 9000 hours in the rj. And now I’m getting f’d. So, I wouldn’t say I’ve had an excess of luck.

the interview process to get into a major airline is ridiculous. There are eagle scout, service academy graduates, with 1000 hrs of PIC time in tactical jets, internal recommendations, and 121 experience who didn't get the invite.

Emerald coast, checked and set, and professional resume prep are a must, and those two are great services with great people, but damn, it is crazy what you have to do to make yourself stand out compared to other jobs.

it's a high paying job for very little effort, but you better fit the mold and in this industry, having a pedigree and looking the part is something that definitely still applies to 95% of those hired.

that said, there are definitely some people who were hired at expressjet, and washed out of training, who never should have been there. in my class at least. there are people who really just don't have whatever it takes to be an airline pilot.

but the amazing, safe, cool, hilarious pilots you fly with on a four day trip, who would give you the shirt off their back, but who don't interview well, or have some strange personality quirk, or are just plain ugly? not getting hired at one of the big four.

But I do hope for the good of the profession that enough of you are willing to wager personal sacrifice against setting the profession back.

Over time your pilot group has been a leader in moving the “B Scale” portion of the profession forward, as a necessary consequence to see the floor knocked down by one of our professions leaders would be a huge gain to anti-labor forces. Godspeed to all of you who have the courage to stare down the barrel and refuse to set us as a group back.

In solidarity.
Yeah, fall on your sword guys. It's the only honorable thing to do. As if the outcome for XJT makes a piddle of a diff either way. What grandiosity.
