well at least you knew that going into it. A lot of the FO's that have been here some time got hired when upgrade was 2-3 years or so from DOH so for us it is a huge letdown.

huuuuuuge let down. Nothing like wasting your youth making 40k a year at a time when making lots of $$$ is one of the most important (relatively speaking) priorities in your financial life.

Actually, I didn't know that. They told me at the interview it would be 3-4 years with all the mainline hiring and expansion. I've been in this business too long to believe that. Hopefully I won't be around long enough to find out.

I wish I made 40k in one year. I'd feel rich.

Upgrade time does matter to those who want to go to a place that requires turbine PIC. Wanna know what the projected upgrade for someone with my DOH is at Xjet? 10 years! Changes your perspective a little bit when you look at it like that. So tell me, people: If this place goes t*ts up in a year or shows no hope of movement, and you have very good connections at the place you want to end up, and all that's holding you back is 1000TPIC, you wouldn't entertain the thought of a lateral move to a place where you could get that required time in less than 10 years?! LOL

Upgrading isn't just all about just earning PIC time. At a regional airline in the right seat you aren't even looked upon as a real pilot. You are just an annoying apprentice to most trying to earn his keep. And most regional CBA's reflect that. Pay scales aren't designed for one to live off of. After 6+ years with a company and most likely 10+ into your career you need to start being able to pay your investment back and take a break from pre flights, post flights and those damn hotel key card responsibilities that are apparently in some company policy booklet that I have yet to see. There comes a time when you have paid your dues and you are ready for the next challenge.
This is a generic statement but many could agree with this. There's still that entitlement generation that always feels as if they DESERVE something without doing the work. But 8-10 years in the right seat at a regional airline is way too long. I don't care if the guys at Comair were doing it. It's still not right.
