I wonder if United tells its regional feeds hiring department when they offfer one of their pilots a job. Would give them a heads up for planning future new hire classes before the pilot submits his 2 week notice.
Have any legacy carriers hired anyone off the street besides USair? I'm friends with one of the chiefs over at DL and he doesn't anticipate any actual hiring until late 2014-2015.

Seems like most hiring is kind of lateral where you are just so sick of where you are, you will go anywhere. All set going to places with busted pilot groups or to fly another RJ somewhere else.

I have yet to speak with anyone that flys an RJ that got a call from United. Seems like they are picking guys that have been to outer-space and on posters for the military.

I know a regional girl who got hired at United a couple of months ago. She was a member of "women in aviation."
I'm sure that is purley a coincidence though!

Im both jealous and happy for her.

I am confused how this works (dual qual) when you have a base specifically to one equipment. Does this mean that an ATL CR7 pilot can have a trip that originates out of DTW on their line or even have a trip originate out of IAD/DFW on the 200 in the same month?
In theory yes. But you can bet your butt when they are short you will be conveniently based where ever the heck they want. Sort of like commuting positive space paid.

The two problems I see with dual qual is:

A.) when you dead head you are paid on the cheapest rate. Min days are also usually paid as the lowest rate too. I would imagine on reserve if you do not touch an airplane, such as on Ready Reserve but you are paid for an assignment it will also be paid at the lowest rate too. That in itself is a concession.

B.) You are part of a union. Meaning you must BARGAIN for things. As stupid as it is, it's part of the negotiation process. So if the company wants it, there must be a trade for something to benefit you as part of the union. It stands as leverage when you hold that non-dual qualified in your hands. Once you give that up, you pretty much have nothing left to bargain with.
One thing some may not realize: with dual qual you are paid a base rate, then an overide for any 700/900 flying. But your vacation time, sick time, training is all at base (50 seat) pay. So anyone who is currently flying 700/900 will get a heck of a pay cut when you factor in all of the additional credits, as well as having to fly 50 seat trips.
This is not necessarily true. As the poster above said, it depends on what is negotiated for in the contract. For example, at LXJT, only those junior pilots awarded the 135 would get paid the 135 rate (5 captains per 135), except when they actually flew the 145, then they would get paid the 145 rate. Those who hold the 145 get paid the 145 rate regardless of which aircraft they actually fly, or if its sick pay, training pay, vacation pay, reserve, ready reserve, drug test, etc.

This has been delta all along. Its always 1 -2 years away from hiring. ALWAYS. In 2011 it was just wait til 2012. Then in 2012 it was just wait til 2013. Now its 2013 and they say its 2014-2015. I wonder what they will be saying in 2014....

Not true at all. I have 4 buddies who have gotten calls, one was a JBlue F/O, he is in class now, one female gal who started class a month or two ago, one F/O friend of mine (XJT) who interviewed Tuesday along with a buddy XJT CA of mine same day. Calls are absolutely going out and they are nowhere near astronaut posterboys, lol.

Ditto here, I've heard from several L-ASA and L-XJT Captains and FOs that have gotten calls for interview.

Well, at some point delta will run out of pilots... So will XJT. this summer is going to be awful. Pilots leaving left and right, mostly captains. In the next two months, those in the bottom half of the master list (at least on the CRJ side) will see more movement. Of course they would never upgrade anyone. There will be a lot of cancellations and delays this summer due to lack of captains.
