So if you are sitting on reserve, are the trips 2-4 days that are assigned, or are there any that are out and back same days, or is it just something different each time?

Whatever is open, it could be just one flight and a deadhead base and done, it could be a day or four. You could fly a 10 hr 4 day or a 20 hr 3 day. It varies on what is open and what the company needs covered.

Ha! If there is one thing that is always true of all airlines anywhere, this is it my friend. Seniority is everything. Welcome to the airlines.

One good side to being on a reserve is that you get to see your child grow right?

Anyway, expect 4 day trips over the weekends if you are junior and holding a line.
This contractually can not happen on the ERJ side. Day for day can only be denied within 12 hours if there are no reserves to cover an earlier or later show time. You can move days via bad day worse day trading. If the days you are trading into have worse coverage than the days you are on, they have to approve it within 72 hours. Reserves can also move on call days via this method.

Lol, good one. There are guys that tell me they have never attended their child's bday or been home for xmas. These people have been at Xjet for 12 years. Kind of sad. That's mostly self induced I think though.

As far as the trip variation it depends on the time of the year and how well the airline is staffed. I can't really comment on all aircraft and all bases. But ATL 700 as an FO the days of holding all 3 day pairings is dwindling. Once the bottom of the credit window gets around 88-90hrs there has to be a couple of high credit 4 days in your schedule to meet the window. Or you get a bunch of 2 days back to back and 3 days with day lines on one end with a very inconsistent schedule.

I had a schedule with all 3 days a few months ago. Was really nice but I new it wouldn't last. Took a while to get there though.

Oh you didn't hear. The new Expressjet makes it's OWN contract along the way. It's call grieve it or leave it. Enjoy ;-)

Quoted for MF'in truthiness.

So much of people's attempts to manage their career and the decisions they make is based on this one simple fact.

Except that as a reserve at ExpressJet, you'll spen 6 days each week at the airport either sitting ready reserve, or flying one round trip then waiting an hour to get released.
