But go ahead and feed your suspicion that it's all about the company trying to cover up for bad staffing. I don't care. It ain't my problem!

Stop with your logic and facts! We are here to bash the company and complain!

Answer me this then since you seem to know.......

Our scheduler yesterday called for us to do 1 leg somewhere, and then DH back. We arrive at the airport, and the crew taking the airplane is no where to be found. It's suppose to be their first flight of the day, and they were DH'ing in from ATL. They were booked, but never on the plane. 2 pilots and 2 FA's, booked but never on it for a first flight of the day. What did we do? We offered to the company to operate that flight to avoid cancellations and severely delayed flights. The OCC had NO CLUE that the other crew was never even at the airport they should have been at until we called them.

Another example is I was suppose to be DH'ed somewhere for an overnight. I called and told scheduling that I will give them one reason why I am calling. They said for rest in the place I was suppose to DH to. Well it was amazing how I got there, as there was no crew to operate that flight at all (company flight, and they could see that). They had no clie at all that no one could operate that flight until I called and told them. Thanks for the free 9.5 hours of pay on that one scheduling.

To say we are properly staffed is a joke. And I'm not just talking about pilots, I'm referring to competently staffed schedulers too. The NE had very few delays yesterday. You can't say EWR delays are cause for an IROP, as they weren't last summer or the summer before. We had 0, yes 0 FO's on reserve yesterday. Our captain yesterday called and picked up the trip, and said he will pick it up if it pays at premium pay even though it wasn't posted. They gave it to him. Guess what, he got 8:09 or credit and 8:09 of junior man pay yesterday due to a crew not showing up. 12:14 of credit on a 10:45 duty day.

I'm also now scheduler for 29:47 in 7 with my next 4 day that starts tomorrow with quite a bit of ATL flying. I know I will have overblock for sure, and scheduling response: You're legal, so just operate until you go over. Lets see what happens when I go over on my last leg at an outstation and can't operate the flight back.

How does the 200 ATL reserve list look today? There are no 700 FOs left today and they were out yesterday morning as well.

If you are good to start then you are good to finish. As long as you are under 30 when you start day 4 you can go over 30 during the day with no violation. You need to have a solid 30/7 violation by the end of day 3 to have them change your 4th day.

So wrong. Yet there is some happy go lucky little reserve guy out there just sooooooo excited to tell chicks he flys real jets for the airlines. And the super senior guys couldn't care less. It's a union issue.
This is exactly what management wants you to feel. Management is the ones who declare IROP/SWAP yet the pilots blame other pilots and the union. It's managements perfect way of undermining our union and YOU along with hundreds are falling for it.

Unfortunately, until 1/4/14, it's still good to start good to finish.

What is the current base seniority? What would be the chance of a new hire going to EWR?

I know its legal to start, legal to finish. But I know for a fact that I will be over 30

But it more comes in like with this part of the contract:

When making awards or assignments, revising conflicts, or taking other actions that affect a pilot’s schedule, the Company will use the following limits:
a. When a pilot’s schedule could be affected by FAR 121.471(a)(3) (30 in 7), Crew Scheduling may elect to drop, or not to award or assign, flying if such

award or assignment schedules a pilot for more than 28.5 hours, block-to-block, in seven (7) consecutive days (31.5 in 7 for FAR 121.470).
Now I know it says "MAY ELECT" to drop something to bring me back down under 28.5, but they won't because we are short staffed and they are concerned a reserve guy can't cover that last round-trip. That was more at what I was getting with originally.

Every base except for den is a possibility out of training and I think ord might be hard to get for awhile but with so many people moving around it is anybodies guess. Ewr will always be junior with our show/release times on our trips and the cost of living in the northeast.

Negative. Legal to start, legal to finish only applies to the 8 hours of flying between rest periods.

If your actual plus future scheduled goes over thirty in 7 they have to adjust it.
