The part about getting day lines or bits an pieces of trips is true. You're a plug as a reservist to fill the gaps.

Reserve is what you make of it. If you want to be miserable and adversarial with scheduling, then you'll hate it. If you have no self worth, couldn't care less about your QOL, and love to be taken advantage of it isn't so bad.
I think that's what you really meant. Right?

Can anyone comment on how the DFW American operation is going? From a flight crew standpoint? If you look at the cancellations there really seems to be a serious issue out there with MX. What's the deal?

Don't know about this week, but we have had lots of gear problem and some struck by lightning. Also we have no spares so any time something breaks that needs parts it ends up with several cancellations.

This isn't true. I was on reserve a few months ago and routinely had 2 or 3 days where they never used me. The max number of days they can give you ready reserve is 6 in a month. On the capt side they have been getting abused worse then on the FO side.

The reserves are going to be abused this summer though.

Today in the airport starbucks line, an FO had a Delta lanyard, "DELTA DTW Crew" bag tags, but his badge had a red and white airplane on it.

Is he on the airbus, guys?

You will have a couple of those at every regional who would want others to think that they work for "insert mainline."

Spend 5 or 6 years on reserve some time...

Yep! When talking about reserve life...always consider the perspective it's coming from. The new hire fo's are only sitting reserves for a month or so with so many new hires that they are not being used so much. So sure, reserve is not bad for them. You will get the same perspective from senior captains who sat reserve, for a brief period, years ago.

We've all felt the pain of reserve and I can't imagine doing it for 5+ years, but be careful what you post here. These forums aren't so anonymous if the company or FAA doesn't like what it sees and wants to find out who you are.

SH reads APC, believe it or not.

I sent him a private message. Way to quote it so he can't delete it, Einstein.
