1. Sub is another term for recovery obligation. Most carriers have it. Ours is so complicated that simply using the wrong term with scheduling can potentially cost the pilot a lot of money.
The process should be simplified and the software should be coded to give the pilot a clearer picture. Choice A will give you X number of credit hours and X obligation - Choice B will give you X number of credit hours. Simple, straightforward. Not the case right now. It’s a complicated flow chart and the wrong guess at 3 AM could hose you.

Never thought I'd read a pilot advocating for more FedEx IT support.

At 3 AM, your best choice is staying in SUB because you'll have minimal overlap. And thinking through the options in the light of day makes it easy to evaluate your choices.

One exception, as a commuter on Friday nights I'm prone to declining SUB which will automatically invoke OTP within 30 minutes of block-in of my extended trip in order to just go home.

It seems like you have a very thorough understanding of SUB, when and when not to accept it. You are one of the first, most people are confused. It still shouldn’t have to be that complicated.
If I’m being involuntarily removed from a trip for any reason, or if my trip conflicts with training or getting my passport back for company purpose, I should paid without having to be in SUB or makeup anything PERIOD.

You mean the way most guys are already behaving? Ask the R&I guys what age the largest number of retirees fall into. 64 point something is the probable answer. They are already doing it without an incentive, so why not get an incentive?

The gig is just too good to give up at 60, even with 25/260 met and earning no additional YOS for pension purposes under the current scheme.

Well guess what, when I signed up, I did so with the intention of leaving at 60 under this current plan and that haven’t changed. With that said you can take your VB Plan flush it. My Vote is already no regardless on how you try to sell it.

You’d be correct. And I asked for a waiver based on what was told to us on day one, over two years before 18-01. This was pre-implementation of 2015 Sec 24. Waiver denied by the former System Chief Pilot.

If you accept it, and typically it's a Change from a Friday PM return to a Saturday return, it pays 125% for the trip. IOW-your 30 CH trip was revised to return late for about 35CHs actually pays 43.75. (Or, should you be lucky enough to return 2 days early. Your 30 CH trip is changed to an 18 CH trip which actually pays 30CH. We get the higher of the original trip or RAT trip *125%)

You can decline a RAT trip with absolutely no consequences to your Pay. You simply remain in Substitution for that week.

A RAT trip fulfills all SUB obligations from the original trip.
Thanks for the explanation.

Makeup Banks
Seat Locks
Deviation Banks
R24 HSBY
Seat Bids will be done per Industry Standard
1.5 Hour Reserve Call out will be gone and Reserve changed to Industry Standard
Airport STBY gone as a Reserve assignment.
All Intercontinental DHs will be in First Class or the pairing will be rebuilt to accommodate

What else am I missing?

That’s barely scratching the surface.

Ugh- very disappointing to hear. I was told “don’t worry about the seat lock as a new hire, most waivers get approved”. guess that gouge was not entirely accurate.

If they don’t understand it beyond, say, month 2 then the onus is on them. I’m dropping everything that I can convince CRS to let me drop because I like making a guaranteed 246.16% rate of return on my investments. If I could drop everything and make $0 right now, I would.

Serious question... then what? Do you have a mil retirement to supplement that? Spouse? Savings?

Some people can't do that.
