Flexjet hiring ?
#1361
I’m currently 14 months from retiring from my government job can anyone tell me when is a good time to apply? I don’t wanna apply too soon but I also don’t wanna apply too late if the hiring process is eight months to a year long, I did send off an email to FlexJet pilot hiring but I have not heard anything and it’s been about two weeks I figured flex jet must get 1000 applications a month so maybe it’s better to start the process soon. ideally I would like to retire from my regular job and already have a class date
I applied 11 months out. I should have waited another 5-6 months.

I applied a few months ago and I know my app is being reviewed. I think they’re swamped and it just takes a while to wade through the applicants.
I retire in a year but will go early for the right opportunity. So, I’m not in dire straits but I’m ready to move forward in life.
Good Luck!

Regional Scum Looking for a change
New to the Forum here! I was wondering if anyone has recently made the switch to FlexJet from a regional carrier? Im a Mil guy (C-130H's for the Ohio Air National Guard) and got a job with Envoy a little over a year ago. Regional life is just not doing it for me with the schedules... I have to commute from CLE to ORD for work every trip and recently I have only been getting 2 scheduled days off between trips which makes life tough. I spoke with FlexJet recruiters about 6 months ago and decided to not move forward on the switch at the time do to the massive pay increases we got at the Regionals. However, the pay increases seem to have destroyed the Quality of Life... Pursuing the Legacy carriers is still a viable option for me, but worried it will be more of the same...
The wife and I have been talking about me pursuing FlexJet again and was wondering if anyone had any advice. Im 30 and I am looking to find my last "New Employer", is FlexJet somewhere I can stay for 30+ years? or will it burn me out and leave me chasing the Major Airlines years behind in seniority?
Thanks for the help guys!

Former airline guy, and former commuter at that.
Getting a 100% paid company paid ticket (oh, and you keep the airline points) ON WORKING DAYS, no crash pads, and an unlimited company card for all meals and expenses is a HUGE QOL boost.
Yes, we work longer tours than the airlines. But we fly you to the jet (CLE is one of our bases) on day 1, and we WILL get you home on the last day, even if it means you have to fly the jet home.
We also don’t have junior manning.
Oh, and airlines open and close bases, and just when you had the commute figured out, now you have to commute again. Here, even IF we close a base, you will be grandfathered into it.
Or you have to switch bases to upgrade to the aircraft you want.
None of that applies here. We may work 6-8 days at a time, but you will also have 6-8 days off AT HOME.

Former Regional guy here too and I happen to live in NW Ohio. Let me know if you want to get together for lunch one day to talk about Flex and the thought process I went through before departing the 121 world. I'm also retired military, but active duty Army.
In a nut shell, yes, you can stay at Flex and retire after 30+ years. All comes down to your families goals at the end of that time.
Best of luck with your decision and happy flying!

Was fractional years ago, then/now airline (non-legacy). Got laid off at the tail end of the Great Recession but knew before then I couldn’t do it another 30+ years. I know things have likely changed in the last 10 years but schedule was the main reason. Fractional covers days vs trips so it’s more like a reserve line bidding system for everyone (except no sitting at home). Major airline pay is better (for now) and schedules are much more “flexible” where I work. Fractional was before children and didn’t like being gone from home for 6(+/-) days. Now I don’t like being gone 2. QOL at either a Fractional or non-regional are going to be a step up. Best advice talk to people at both Flexjet and the next step airline you’re interested in and go from there.
