Highly unlikely and if someone "official" from EK actually said that, they are lying to attract pilots. If you look at the schedule for new aircraft, barring DEC's (I'll leave that to others to speculate on), it is going to take you between 5 to 7 years minimum to get yourself halfway up the list. Right now, guys doing their upgrades have been here about 4 years and that number is just going to get bigger given that the airline (pretty young pilot group) really needs to double for you to get your command (some have upgraded faster but on average, that's been what has happened for the upgrade). The bigger the airline, the longer it is going to take. Plan on 7 years and if it happens sooner - be happy.

Unless they are expecting an exodus as hiring picks up elsewhere.

Where would pilots from EK be going too? I thought EK was the place to be.

I sat in recurrent ground school this week and had a Q&A session with the new vp fleet, John A. Your friend is either lying to you or being lied to or both. Yes we're taking boeings but no more this year and we're getting another 4 380's. We will be growing but not until next year. We're at 2400 pilots. Seriously, do you think in 2 years we will double in size? Say 60 widebodies a year for two years? Another 2000 pilots? Can your friend add? Is this even plausable at any airline?

My God, Man.

According to him, is on the application package from EK! I don't know if he can add, but I know in this part of the world most airlines lie!!!!!!!!!!!

There is quite a bit of attrition at EK so apparently people are finding other places to go to

D:

You know a lot about the ANA group of companies, but saying something like this about EK without any basis in fact can be misleading.

There is attrition at EK, but what would "quite a bit" mean? I've moved about 100 numbers up the list in 8 years so the attrition above me is pretty low. Management states that attrition is running at around 2% on a yearly basis. With 2400 pilots that would be 48 per year. Most of that occurs below me on the seniority list. Meaning that it is usually first officers leaving in the first 3 to 4 years. Once a guy makes captain it becomes much more difficult to leave since there are few jobs that can match EK's total pay and benefit package.

That all said, I personally know quite few guys who would like to leave and are actively woking on exit strategies. The problem is there just aren't that many places to go so that will keep the rate of attrition fairly low.

At one point a few years back we hit 4% attrition. That was when the airline had just over 1000 pilots. If we hit that number again it would mean about 100 pilots a year leaving and that might qualify as "quite a bit".

Hello Typhoon

It is a matter of perspective really because according to your numbers 12 captains senior to you are leaving every year and if the numbers that my friends that work there are correct (feel free to post your opinion on the subject please) about a third are due to retirement, the rest are resignations and it being subjective in nature I consider that to be quite a bit of attrition, after all with all the A/C orders and a company in hiring mode that sells itself as the gold standard there shouldn't be any attrition, specially during hard economic times. But thank you for giving me your perspective on the matter

Take care
