You easily have the time to apply as an FO so why don’t you do that and then when you meet the requirements for Captain you can upgrade

Yeah, I'll do that. It'd be quite the pay cut for me, but I think I could manage for a year, at the most.

It shouldn’t be a year because once you have 1500 hours you will be eligible to upgrade to Captain.

That's why they recently overhauled the direct entry program.

I see that above. Looks like they are just not getting the quality they need for DEC.

As I've said before, it's not a lack of quality. People are HIGHLY qualified. 78 Captains, 88 captains, 74 captains, retired airforce col., Retired jet blue folks, former NJ folks, good quality of candidates. 320,21 guys. Folks that fly the 12 for other charter outfits. No shortage of good candidates. They just can't pass training. The method of evaluation in their $2M procedures trainer is a terrible waste IMO. The flying is easy. It's the company stuff that gets folks.

The company is a great place to work and the training is comparable to what was done at my previous major airline and the commuter before that. I’m a DEC going through the new program and I can see how it would be difficult to learn a new FMS, aircraft, and company operations all as a Captain. With this new program I’m getting comfortable with the FMS and the aircraft without also being responsible for the operational aspect of the operation. The other DECs going through this new program feel the same way.
