So disappointing to hear this! Everyone has their reasons obviously but there were 6 incentivized trips in MCO that day that were picked up.

Funny how the narrative was steered in a certain direction after I posted about Omni’s new TA....

So if you missed it, I’m going to post the article. This the ONLY narrative that matters right now. If the company management doesn’t see the train steaming towards it, it’s their problem. I know there are people who have legitimate arguments about us not getting “LEGACY PAY”. The legacy pay you see now is going to go up, United opens section 6 soon or I think maybe they even have. The rest follow closely after. But, if our next contract isn’t close this time around, Frontier will have a very tough time staffing this airline for its extremely aggressive “growth” plans. Our ask is not very aggressive and they’re still trying to undercut us. It may be a game to them to see how cheap they get labor, but that’s going to bite them in their pompous and plump asses. I think we have a great opportunity to secure future growth with a smart offer from the company that exceeds what we are asking and places us at least above Alaska rates, if not nestled right up to the big 4, to solidify enough numbers to sustain recruitment through the next round of legacy contracts. Otherwise we will lag behind with retention and recruiting problems that will kill growth opportunities. Some airlines that have had recent gains and thought they would be ok are already seeing problems.

Posted from flightglobal.com

-“The US charter carrier Omni Air International may have set a new high-water mark for pilot pay, agreeing to a contract that will make its first-year first officers the highest-paid in the US industry, according to its pilots' union.

That union, the Airline Professionals Association, Teamsters Local 1224 (APA), says the deal, if ratified, could have broad implications in the US airline industry, serving as a precursor to broader wage growth.

"It sets a precedence," says Greg Unterseher, director of representation at APA, an affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. "[Omni] is a very small carrier. The more-capitalised carriers could easily raise well above this level."

"I think it is illustrative of where we are going," he adds.

Under the new agreement, Omni, which operates three Boeing 777s and nine Boeing 767s, will pay first-year first officers $113.02 per hour, up 61% from the currently rate of roughly $70 per hour, the APA says.

Omni first officers with 12 years of service could earn $201.17 per hour under the new rates.

"The agreement includes major increases in pay that make Omni’s starting first officer salaries the highest in the US airline industry," the union says. "Many Omni pilots operating under the agreement will see their pay more than double during its four-year term."

The deal calls for first-year captains to earn $169.23 per hour, a 54% bump from the current rate of $109.81 per hour. Captains with ten years of service could earn $297.72 per bour, the union says.

"I've never seen that in my career," Unterseher says of the gains. "The old captain [pay] scale became the first officer scale."

The deal also provides better benefits, including first-class travel for pilots deadheading on flights longer than three hours, says the union.

Tulsa-based Omni did not respond to a request for comment. The union says the airline agreed to the tentative deal on 28 February after more than two-and-a-half years of negotiations.

Omni's roughly 250 pilots will vote on whether to ratify the deal in late March, adds the APA.

Unterseher says the agreement was hard fought for by the union, adding that it partly reflects a tight pilot labour market.

Pilots are "a scare resource right now", he says. "To attract pilots, you are going to have to pay where the market is. There is no way around it."

Most US passenger airlines, including majors like American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, signed new pilot contracts in recent years. Those deals, which included broad wage increases, become amendable starting in 2019.

But negotiations are currently underway at other airlines.

Frontier Airlines' pilots will picket outside Frontier's Denver headquarters on 7 March to protest their lack of a new contract, according to the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA). Frontier and the union have been negotiating for three years, ALPA says.

Meanwhile, the APA is in negotiations with freight carriers including Atlas Air, Polar Air World Cargo and Southern Air Cargo (all units of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings), and with ABX Air.

The APA also remains in negotiations with pilots at regional carriers Cape Air and Silver Airways. “-

I will talk to my reps. What is a union rep doing picking up flying on a day off when he should be at the picket? I would understand if he was flying already because this picket was announced after our March awards came out. But from what I can tell he just didn’t bother to go! Total slap in the face to the regular line pilots that commute out to DEN for these pickets.

BTW, I am not condoning regular line pilots for picking up incentivized flying on that day. It’s not really about VJA/JA, it’s about an ALPA rep choosing not to participate in the picket line.

Did I miss the part where someone called for a job action? There is no effort to organize an illegal job action, not even close.

No one is calling for a boycott of incentivized OT, to say otherwise is overly reaching! I heard about this MCO guy before the post was published. Yes, I was at the picket. And I don’t take kindly to an elected officer selling-out his pilot group. If you have the day off, you may have plans that keep you from coming. BUT, if you have the day off and you picked up an incentivized trip, we know you were free. It’s one thing to have a common line pilot making the decision to make money instead of walk the picket line, and something completely different if you are an elected union officer.

Try to crab-walk your way out of that.

Agreed. If his priorities of self improvement supercede the pilot group HE represents... bye

Does anyone actually know if this story of the Orlando rep picking up open time during the picket is actually true? If so, I agree with what's been said, but if it's not true, we need to stop.

We could be seriously hurtling someone's reputation based on a false rumor.

It's 100% true and for the record, he picked up another 18 hour VJA 2 days before this one. I love working OT, but this is bull****. If one really wanted to, they could look up his whole schedule with some research. He has chosen to keep it private via Flica, which I think is BS considering he is an elected rep.

Just a remark from an outsider (NK). There were a few loudmouth APCers who were threatening people who picked up open time, published screenshots including peoples names, made phone calls on recorded lines saying there was a concerted effort not to pickup open time. It took the company 30 minutes to convince a judge to sign a TRO holding the MEC personally liable if this didn't stop. ALPA didn't even show up to defend SPAMEC. Also SPAMEC had been sending several emails telling people it was crucial we keep the operation going and keep picking up open time. From what I heard it might have cost us in negotiations. I did not pick up any open time in May and June last year because I was busy and that is fine, just make sure you don't tell other people what to do with their time off....
