250 newhires for 2020 has been a consistent number for a while.
Seeing as how we are hiring huge classes, I suspect we have a long break in hiring during the summer. And I haven't heard or seen anything about the Thomas Cook aircraft so who knows

Does that mean if you chose to stay in Denver you would keep it as your permanent domicile with little risk of being displaced, or would you have to re bid for it?

Right. And the last bid had no Denver spots so the entire Nov class got other domiciles. Denver base as a newhire is just to save the company money. There's no guarantee of being Denver based right out of training

November vsa didn’t have open DEN spots listed but several still got it because of upgrades etc.
