Well, reading that made me relax

I received an interview date at WAI also. Really looking forward to it, all the info in this thread helps a lot! Seems like a great group of people there.

No offense to Aero, I am not hating the messenger, but I don't care how many 321's are on property. If they pay the same as 318s they are meaningless.

1200 in 20 months? Possible but not probable. Training bandwidth is trading new hires with upgrades each month. F9 is definitely growth mode but whomever preached the 321's and 1200 is blowing smoke.

Just to put some numbers to it:

Looking at the April seniority list we see who's left from classes 2/2014 thru 1/2015. This represents a 12 month period in which we added 164 pilots.

That's 13.6 avg. per month.

Keeping this average would give us 1138 by Dec 31st 2016, of course this only factors attrition hitherto, not ongoing.

They'd need to bump hiring up another 40% to 19/m average, after attrition, to get 1200 pilots by Dec 2016

I'm just reporting what management said in recurrent ground school last week. It is probably the most aggressive growth plan the company has. Will we really have 1200 pilots in 20 months time? Probably not, but I bet it's fairly close.

I think that their ability to acquire airplanes is a more difficult task than getting the pilots.

It sure would be nice if pay was addressed. Yes we have a contract and yes we agreed to it, no complaint here with regard to that, but let's hear about potential pay brackets they would like to get to. I realize mgmt likely won't do that but the Union reps should. Will we shoot for Spirit pay? JetBlue pay? Who knows. Just a statement. Don't shoot the messenger just making a statement about what it would be nice hear.

I agree with the other answer. Pretty low key conversation. Really felt like they were just trying to feel out who you were. Be yourself, don't give answers you think they want to hear.
What do you know about Frontier?
Why Frontier?
If United called while you were in class would you leave?
What do you do in your off time?
Check ride failures?
Conversation lasted maybe 15 mins.

It's not a problem of a 321 pay table being the same as a 318. It's that the 318/319/320 pay is very low to begin with. I prefer one rate for the entire 320 series, but not at our current rates. It's to everyone's benefit. It's not even worth debating though since it'll probably be at least 2018 before a glimmer of light with new pay tables presents itself.

In my opinion the pay at Frontier will have to be addressed before the next contract if they want to keep attracting people. The pay cut from a regional captain to Frontier FO is pretty drastic.

And that's why frontier is hiring regional fo's, and not captains. Great lakes captains, yes. Skywest captains, no.

Unfortunately, airlines can get away with almost anything (low pay) when in growth mode and offering hopes of a quick upgrade.

Until I see attrition jump significantly, or until I see them consistently hiring 11 out of 12 interviewees, I'm not thinking they're having trouble finding quality candidates.

They will only raise pay when they are absolutely forced to under section 6 negotiations, after dragging it out as long as functionally possible. Hopefully the economy is good in those days!

Oh, and hopefully we don't trade work-rules for shiny rates.
