Side note (I didn't do spurs); as a kid I wore western boots that had heels. They're handy for sticking through a fence or stirrups. Not so much on a J-3 cub with heel brakes. I landed one day went to taxi clear, gave it a bit of heel brake, and the heel stuck under the rudder pedal and wedged against the brake...and there I went, in circles. Every 360 degrees I came across a gaggle of laughing ag pilots. About the third pass I stopped, removed both both boots and threw them out the window. I taxied back out and took off, because I was too embarrassed to taxi to the hangar. I never wore those boots or heels in an airplane again.

I suspect spurs would be worse.

Spurs are OK if you fly the F-104, SR-71, or U-2.

Part of the ejection system. A cable connects them to a reel which pulls your feet into position just before the seat fires.
