Jughead, this is an excellent article on what you need to know without getting too complicated:Some Thoughts On Zeroing
Thank you! Perfect. This is exactly what I was looking for -- and it pretty much jives with the ballistic bullet drop data from Federal. I also got some 180 gr rounds...off to the range to zero in this puppy. And my new .45, .357, .380, and 12 Ga.
Expecting the blue Crowne Vic parked out front any day now.

Was watching one of my favorite Bruce Willis movies (RED) and was trying to figure out one of the weapons used. You first hear about it when John Malkovich has that great line: "Frank, I never thought I'd say this again. I'm gettin the pig."
Turns out it was an M203 Grenade Launcher but it sure didn't look like the ones we had when I was in the service.
Anyway, Here's the movie link:
Red (2010) - IMDb
...and the link to the list of weapons used in the film.

If you haven't seen it, it's a killer movie.

Anybody here have any thoughts on the Barska scope? In particular, the 6-24 x 60. Reviews are all over the place, but seem positive for the most part. I realize this scope falls into the "budget" category, which is what I'm on. I'm not willing to spend $2000+ for my $600 Remington 700. My rifle is currently fitted with a Leupold I 3-9 x 40. Scope is fine, but I'd like to look through something that can take me downrange with a bit more clarity.
Rifle is a Rem 700, .308. "Plaster" Choate stock on a Harris bipod. Will this cheapo scope keep it's zero after a few .308 rounds?
If this is a crap scope, please say so - I've always been a big believer in getting what you pay for.
Thanks for any info.

Barska is a cheap Chinese made scope, and I'd personally stay away from it. Big magnification + crappy lenses = terrible clarity & light transmission.
Look into a SWFA SS fixed power scope, Millett TRS, Mueller APT, Falcon Menace, or Vortex Viper. Other good options that I have personal experience with are used Nikon Buckmaster/Monarch or Leupold VX-II. All of these should be in the sub-$400 range.

I've owned a Barska. It was a red dot pistol / carbine scope and couldn't 'hold zero' on a 60lb compound bow <Bear Done Deal>. I did a quick search and Leupold has just released its flashy new VX-6... Bet its a good time to 'get a bargain' on older scopes... VX1 or 2

Thanks gents-
This is what I needed to hear. I'll save up for better optics - no rush.
Yesterday I called my local range to speak with someone about scopes, and the guy had never heard of Barska. My mind was pretty much made up at that point.
