Nothing like burning 500 gallons of Jet-A to watch "Iron Man III" in comfort.
Almost as epic as every morning FA going ballistic about turning on the APU to make coffee slightly earlier. Yeah a $500/hr coffee maker that makes hotel room quality coffee with hose water for 6 or 7 people max. You could buy them the highest maintenence drinks made at Starbucks and still save hundreds per flight. Got big picture?

Tool of the day: The pilot that turns it on when the FA asks, knowing the costs, system wear, and that it deviates from your standard procedures.

I guess you need to know the guy.....he used to be a Check Airman. Most pilots hold those guys to a higher standard. He gave me OE on another aircraft, and was worthless. Lack of standardization, attention to detail, etc.

Last month, he gave me an aircraft with a huge maintenance issue, only to say that it's my problem. He was going to the hotel.

The same behavior pattern seems to be in play here.

In their defense, how freaking good was Iron Man 3.

Totally worth it!

Seriously though, being a pilot is actually really "cool" in doctor circles though, just as people think being a doctor is quite interesting at various FBOs. I'd love to hear about pro pilot adventures at a bar, but I'm a geeky married dude. That's the only type of person you'll "pick up."
The only person that is impressed with you being a pilot is the hot girls boyfriend.

You're right. For an NG with an Allied Signal 131-9 APU the burn is:

No packs 180 PPH
One Pack 240 PPH
Two Pack 204 PPH

STILL 3000 # for an evening seems a bit high.

Holy crap! Our APU burns 600# per hour! We do have some pretty sky high power requirements that the generator has to meet, but still, it seems excessive compared to the low numbers you just posted.
