I tend to agree with CATIII. HAL is a dream job for many. I would love to get back out there. JetBlue?
This has to be some slow pitch flame bait dude. |
For what it's worth, the guys I know that even got the first nod from HAL had to network EXTENSIVELY. They didn't get an interview just because they lived in Hawaii. They got an interview because they're genuinely good dudes, with impeccable records. They got invited out for the FIRST interview. So yeah, just move on out and you're good to go I'm sure. With that attitude, invite yourself over to my house and I'll introduce you to my sister.

Hey guys. I was told that if you live in HI, you are pretty much guaranteed an interview? What about the peeps who live Stateside: do they stand a chance? Do you think with all the forthcoming legacy hiring it might be easier to walk into the niche carriers like Hawaiian? If you could choose between Hawaiian, JetBlue, spirit or Allegiant, which would you choose? They seem fairly consistent as a career with Hawaiian being somewhat of an outlier because of the location factor. I always thought it might be kinda fun to live in HI. I'm just trying to decide on where to aim my sights. Thanks.
I think you should go Allegiant. For sure. That is the company for you. |
I didn't know a soul. I had no internal recommendations. I was contacted three times for an interview. Each time I had to turn the invite down because of family issues (2 deaths, one month apart, and my wife had just started a new position at the University).
It was horrible timing and gut wrenching to have to say "no" three times to the invite, but my wife and family had to come first. I hope that someday I can get my foot back in the door. FYI, I live on the mainland and have no ties to the islands other than the fact that I REALLY want to live there, I love to spend my time there, and I have a good friend that retired to the big island and has a fabulous house that I have free run of the downstairs mother-in-law quarters. |

Probably can't hurt but I'm told almost for certain they are not hiring prior to the window opening again and they'll probably throw out everything they have at that point.

Please clarify. Do you mean that those of us that have applied, received the email about being kept for further consideration and have been updating our stuff will be cleaned out of the system?

What kind of time are they looking for? I'm years away from having competitive times but wondering what my next step should be to be more competitive for HAL. Would TPIC in a prop, or regional jet time be better? Do they like to see international and over water experience?

Yep, thats how they do it. This is my second time in the dance, and they "flush" the applicant pool just prior to re-opening a new requisition. Then, wash-rinse-repeat. Re-apply, make your hotel reservations, and re-interview. This IS my dreamjob, heres to the 3rd time being the charm!!!

Hawaiian is a "Legacy" airline.... maybe 1/3 of the pilots here live on the "mainland" .. Hawai is "Stateside" btw.
How can you put us in the same sentence as Allegiant? Don't bother to apply... Whoa brah! I'm just getting into this whole airline stuff. I sorry, I see now on the airline profiles that they are legacy. sorry mah. Look, I just got hired at Expressjet about a yr ago and I'm trying figure out a game plan. I never intended to stay here and now a lot of the Cappy's are leaving and I figure it should be a few years with the current rate of hiring and retiring. I didn't mean to lump you guys in with Allegiant and Jetblue. That just happens to be where a lot of the guys are going to. Anyway it sounds like a fun place to work and you guys are very proud of it. Peace yo. |

Mostly yes, but not always.... its that way anywhere you work though. Nobody like it when they feel someone doesn't earn something the hard way by being market competitive.

Still no word on when the wash-rinse-repeat cycle is going to start again?

Even with this wash-rinse-repeat cycle, does HR still keep track of past applications? Of course I will gladly do what's necessary and reapply when the time comes. I am just wondering if it helps to have applied in the past.

When is the hiring window open again? How big are they on recency of experience? I have a lot of time in the Boeing products, but have been furloughed for 5 years, damn near living in my car... :)

I hope the application window opens soon, looking forward to submitting. :)

New Vacancy bid is out: no new hires and several displacements on the 76. 19 capt slots on A330.
|
Afraid it looks like the NEO arrivals may be the next time we see some significant hiring... Interested to see what route/ frequency announcements come in the following weeks.

No way brah?
I am all over that. I hope in 3 years I will be ready to make the jump to the big HA. Doesn't the NEO come out about then? I will definitely have the TT then. Can't wait! |

In three years you can perfect your Hawaiian verbiage. They love that at the interview. Call them brah. Use Aloha, Mahalo, WikiWiki. You will get the job for sure

Is Hawaiian hiring? If so, how does one go about applying?

Honestly, if anyone here is waiting for HAL to hire anytime soon... and you're qualified now you're wasting your time. I don't see us hiring again until 2017 (assuming that too doesn't change)... The new ICN flying is just replacing 767 flying at some point, not a new route. I just hope we can avoid furloughs.
|
Guys, I know you are just giving me the new guy a lotta smak, but I'm just trying to make it up the ladder. Just like you are. I hope HA stays good and it's just a hiccup. Times will be better soon. Mahalo.

The one saving grace is that the vacancy bid must have already had TPE factored in. (Hopefully:o) I agree though.... Don't see hiring until the NEO's hopefully arrive... From what I hear, HA really dropped the ball a few years ago and allowed Alaska to run the show on outer island routes... I don't know the numbers, but it sure seems our bread and butter is going to West Coast... I do alot of those flights and it seems that loads are almost always solid.. (No idea what the revenue is on them).... But HA is more hell bent on going to Asia.. Time will tell, but having been through this 4 years ago, and being consistantly told "Remain calm, all is well....." (Cue K. Bacon in Animal House) I am going to atleast do some updating of the 'ole logbook and research what airline is doing what these days.... BTW, apparently HA is still making money so go figure:rolleyes: |
