Are there people already completed with the interview process in a pool to fill these new hire vacancies, or will they be scheduling phase 3s to fill them?

I'm in the 'waiting for phase 3' boat as well.

Really, I was hoping to see them open another application window. It's been over a year and half since the last one.

Rabbit 09-10-2013 08:22 PM

Any word on reopening the window?

Trap 09-11-2013 12:28 PM

How long is upgrade for the new hires and where would a new hire be based?
Thanks!

I stumbled across this website. Perhaps it will help you answer some of your questions..

SEA domicile is closing, btw.

Heard the new hires will be pulled from those already done with the process that have not gotten a 'no thanks' letter.

Also known as a 'pool' at most places.

I'm assuming that's with the phase III already completed?

Is there anyone on the thread that has completed phase III and is waiting for a class? I was kind of under the (probably incorrect) impression that there wasn't much of a wait time between phase III & a class date..?

SkyBird17 09-12-2013 01:24 PM

I would like to know as well. I'm waiting for a Phase III invite. Got a letter saying my app is still being considered after I did phase I & II. But that was 11 months ago.

gsphuntr 09-12-2013 06:12 PM

Group of 9 did phase3 in the spring... they are next up for class.

kingairfun 09-13-2013 12:17 AM

If I remember the last class of maybe 4 went through in May I think...

Or sometime around there...they most likely got done with IOE and consolidation late July early August.....

Hawaiian should have plenty of applicants to chose from the window last year..IMO, it would be a waste of time and $$ to redo a whole application process for just a handful of new hires in 2014...

Hopefully prior to the NEO's showing up there will be a slight opening of the floodgates

tikicarver 09-15-2013 11:18 AM

When is the award date for this vacancy bid?
Nothing will probably happen until that date.

Rama 09-15-2013 08:42 PM

Effective date is 6/1/2014.

Is this for the bid that showed a whopping 14 new hires?? Or is there something else out there I missed. I would love to hear the need for more than 14 between now and mid next year.

captfurlough 09-27-2013 11:05 PM

Just a wild guess....if they're retiring 767's and they have excess 76 crews, they'll be put into the training pipeline first. New hires...probably the end of the year or early next year....again, just a WAG....but the good news is there will be new hires! The rest of the story...as a new hire you'll be on reserve for a while on the 330...or you'll get to fly daily on the 71...and in either case....you'll be a lucky SOB!

Absolutely.. Either a/c sure beats the heck out of going up and down the East coast in an -88 or -73.... You can either be home every night OR do long haul intern. Right from the start

Wish I knew the secret password... No one in my class knew exactly what It took to get in...... We were all just happy we did....

Put it this way... Our most junior trip is basically a 3 day Sacremento, where you report around 1pm day one, and return around 11:30 am day 3.... 2 legs and a day to screw around in downtown SMF.. It's all good at HA...:D

Bryanintransit 09-29-2013 06:09 AM

Thanks for passing the info along about the vacancies. Any clue when the next window might open up to fill out an app? Any idea how many people are in the pool?

They interviewed a lot last year.... My guess would be for them to pick from that vs. ramping up interviewing for just 14 new hires..... I'm sure they have a ton of people to pick from for this year... I haven't heard of any future windows opening for this years hiring.

And they don't have a pool per se... Everyone that interviewed is technically in the "pool"... Ranked on a scoring scale...they take from the top of that list until the hiring needs are met... At least that's the way I've heard it typically operates, and was my experience with the process.

sidestep 10-03-2013 06:47 AM

Has Hawaiian disseminated any 117 info to the pilots? Just wondering if they are going to have to hire additional pilots for coverage.. Do you guys feel like the airline is over/under staffed?

I know you guys have 3 more A330 coming in short order, has the company said anything about the gov't shutdown affecting deliveries?

Thanks for the info, hoping to see new hire classes start soon!

Shifty 10-03-2013 08:19 AM

Shifty 10-08-2013 08:52 AM

Meanwhile on the 330 there's Taipei, 10 hours in the air and departing at 1AM, or the "midnight madness" Vegas 1:55am departure, and lets not forget the famous LAX turns where the FO operates both legs (and usually doesn't get either landing) while captains take turns in the back!

But compared to what I did before, it's still good! In ACMI freight, the typical trip was back side of the clock and 18+ hour days...

Just didn't want to leave people with the impression that we don't have our share of back side of the clock flying here... Koolaid is good, but only in moderation.

Very true, have done a few of those LAX out and backs....pretty miserable if you aren't already well rested heading to work..I've got a 4 yr old up at the crack of dawn, so I'm never at 100%!!!!

And these international trips always kill me heading back.... Good thing though is you(I) can always just bid for some West Coast 3 day ( or 2 day SJC, OAK) and get a nice easy trip with a day to relax... ( which is great for me to take a little break from the home life. :)

I've done quite a bit of different types of flying... On call, regional, corporate etc.... The type of flying here is pretty relaxed compared to other jobs

Anymore details on this phase 3 group? Did you know anyone that went to that phase 3 interview?

gsphuntr 10-12-2013 02:40 AM

I know of a guy who phase III'd a few months ago and just got the call that he will be in the next class, I'm pretty sure that between his group and the phase III that just happened Tuesday they have their 14.... I've pretty much given up at this point.

SkyBird17 10-12-2013 07:20 AM

No Bueno...

What day do they start class?

VnavPath 10-13-2013 05:32 AM

I know there are some waiting on Phase III but any idea how many or better yet, any insight into when the app window will open again?... Good luck to the guys and gals waiting for the call!

Theoretically everyone is waiting on phase III, for the most part.....from the few thousand who applied, several hundred interviewed for Phase I and II... Out of those several hundred I'd guess that 80 or so got hired alah Phase III over the last year.

Hawaiian does a pool, but it is a pool of everyone who interviewed. Ranked from best to not the best. They call the next highest ranking interviewee on down the line until positions are filled for Phase III.

No idea what makes HR decide when it's time to wipe the slate clean and reopen the window, but I'd wager that for only 14 new hires, it won't happen anytime soon.

gsphuntr 10-14-2013 12:59 PM
