On the Hawaiian 'quicktake' it says HA is adding 3 717s for it's Maui base. Is there any talk of a domicile there?

Longboarder29 02-27-2013 06:46 PM

I've been lurking on this thread for a while. Like many others I have applied to Hawaiian multiple times. I missed the last application window because I was in Afghanistan and just did not see it open until too late.

Now I find myself heading back to Afghanistan and hoping that this go around I can maintain better SA on the app window.

I know it's a long shot but has anyone heard anything recently?

At this point I'm anticipating sometime in May they will take resumes again for a week, like they did last year.

Thanks in advance for any info, and best of luck to everyone.

Did I&II twice, then got III in October, only to be shot down by the almighty Doctor a few weeks later. Beware, my friends, of the Doctor. Beware.

Would you mind elaborating? Are their standards higher than the FAA medical standards? Or, is this a psych doc?

I think he's talking about the head doctor (as in shrink).

Anyone know what the A321 payrates look like?

captfurlough 03-11-2013 07:20 PM

New hire class of four rumored to be starting soon. No other hiring planned for now until later this year. Looks like four 767s returning to leasors, 5 A330s for delivery this year, one of which has just been delivered. Net increase of one aircraft for 2013. About 24 crews transitioning to A330 as a result through the balance of the year. Potential system bid in May.

What is the average TT of folks getting on at Hawaiian?

Would knowing an average line A330 CA help? Or does it have to be a LCA or higher up?

my rec was a guy who'd been there 1 year... but then I had more than 2000.... it's very complex.

Bottom line, if you want to work here, apply... they have hired with no internals and they've not hired with 10... it's a good job and you should just apply and not worry about the statistics.

Just heard a friend of a friend did Phase III this week.. Also there were some I/II interviews last week or so....No idea what the plans are but good luck to those guys

Allegiant just announced in paper in Honolulu that they are stopping service to 7 of there 9 locations from hawaii in aug. leaves on phx and Bli service for fall/winter. That should make Hal and Alaska happy.

Shifty 04-07-2013 07:25 AM

I would like to know too! Still waiting by the phone for phase 3. Anyone know anything??? Dan, CATIII, Pizzaman??? Thanks!

I know a class of 7 is starting on the 19th, and I know they claim there are a total of 15 more this year being hired. That's what I've heard recently. I also heard there is a big displacement bid coming out from the 767, and there is talk of closing SEA base.

kingairfun 04-07-2013 11:54 AM

I recently talked with a guy who says that they probably will still keep doing interveiws because thats typically what they do. They don't necessarily need many new guys right now, but the interviews probably will continue.

As many of us hope for, in the next few years the floodgates should open again with the NEO's. (But as they say, until it's on the ramp).... Allegiant, although not doing many flights weekly out of HNL, still takes some revenue from HA/AK.. So any way they're are less seats is always good news for the main players in HI.

Some see Allegiant's move as nothing more than seasonal adjustments, I differ and think they see the writing on the wall that this endeavor may not work out for them. Especially with HA's NEO service starting in 3 years (or less depending)

Shifty 04-20-2013 03:57 PM

So did the 7 start yesterday? What a/c did they get? Any update on the next round of Phases? Thanks Cat III for your replys!

They did, and the "rumor" I heard from a 767 captain who does indoc is 3 717, and 4 767... but a new system vacancy bid came out today shows 11 more vacancy spots unfilled... so I'm going to "ASS"ume that's the number we need to hire still thru Dec 2013.

Take all this with a small grain of salt!

Shifty 04-20-2013 07:46 PM

Thanks CAT III! Still waiting.

captfurlough 04-20-2013 08:02 PM

But what about the 26 pilots displaced from SEA...I assume they'll be moving into some of those slots? Another bid is expected in June to provide for 2014 2nd quarter crew requirements, which suggests that they'll be looking for new hires later this year.

hnldave 04-20-2013 08:02 PM

bad news guys. the way im reading this new vacancy bid, we are done hiring for the year. we have 627 pilots on property, and that'll be it. that includes the pilots who just started class. the bid information packet did indicate a bid vacancy in mid-june, which should indicate the hiring need for 2014.

this bid is very suspicious. it is meant for the closure of the seattle domicile in december 2013. in my opinion, it was totally unnecessary to put this bid out now, when it couldve been combined with the june bid vacancy. so although this bid says no more hiring this year, the june bid will probably say otherwise.

well, and that's why I said "ASS"ume.... so those 11 slots are not inclusive of the 26 displacements then? hmm.... Very confusing... Also add to this the "fact" that we're giving back 4 767's as we take 5 A330s, right? or is this not even factored in yet?

I know the MEC is still fighting to keep SEA open but it seems the company has made up their mind irrespective.

kingairfun 04-20-2013 08:26 PM

Looked at the vacancy for like 2 hrs today... The thing is always confusing!!!

Way I read it is 10 CA 330 slots, and a couple FO 767 slots...

Even with some retirements etc, I'm not sure where they are going to fit 26+/- SEA guys in.... without some displacements....

That being said, the June vacancy is going to show some more 330 slots I suppose for 2014???

IMO the Union was pushing for the vacancy givin the SEA stuff, so the company put one out...With the full expectation to just send another one out in June (which hopefully will be the "real" deal and show what's on the horizon for next year????

For everyone still waiting on HA... keep in mind that after 2014/15 we start ramping up for the NEO's.. I'm hoping that the floodgates open sometime in 2016:) (16 NEO's over a couple year period and the start of the 6 350's)

Southbay 04-20-2013 10:12 PM

Count up all the "vacancy" slots (blue lines), there are 26 of them spread between the fleets. Notice that there are 26 pilots in SEA being displaced. Bid is neutral (no hiring), just a shuffling of seats.

Rama 04-20-2013 10:28 PM

The good news on this bid is only a reduction of 1 76 fo in HNL. Rumors previously had been a much higher reduction in 767 flying out of HNL. Of course there is the SEA loss, but if you look at the numbers, the loss is small. There are 4 76's scheduled to go away, but the total system loss is is 17 slots and that will change shortly in the future. I think there will be more retirements than predicted, the guys with defined benefits would be wise to leave soon if they have the time in. JJ retires at the end of April and will pull in 12.6k a month with no dues, state tax, social security or medicare to pay out. The other guys will see this and think about going out also.

Shifty 04-20-2013 11:16 PM

Well, thanks guys. That ruined the rest of my year. Maybe next year!

See, I should have looked at it for an extra hour!!! Yeah, I definitely missed all 26 blue lines!!

Hawaiian Airlines Hiring

I think it is loss of 767

Based on the 767 disposal schedule I've seen, HA should see a gain in a/c over the next 2 years. The 330's are all supposed to be on property by 2015... That leaves a year or two gap before the NEO's and 350 possibly arrive in 2017. So maybe a possible reduction from the time the last 330 arrives until the new stuff arrives. (2016/17)...

This is my own personal conclusion. I haven't heard anything or talked/gossiped with anyone about it. So don't take my prediction as fact.

shredder1 05-22-2013 08:31 PM

How long might someone expect to be on reserve for at a junior base with the expected hiring?

Well, assuming you're a CFI with no other experience, this might be premature to ask, but for the purposes of education..

there's only one base as of Dec 2013, which is HNL, and depending on equipment, the reserve either goes junior or senior..

On the Worldwide fleet, it's junior and you could be on reserve for a two months or 2 years, depending on how much hiring occurs after you.

On the interisland, I can say that after 8 months, I still can't hold it... it goes quite senior for the most part.

pengu 05-24-2013 08:14 AM

That's interesting, why do senior crews on inter-island
like reserve ?

CATIII 05-24-2013 08:17 AM

Inter Island has no overnight trips, so by definition the people bidding interisland (many of whom are senior enough to hold world wide) want to be home more often.... if you fly 75-80 hours on a bid line with 12-16 days off, vs flying maybe 25-30 hours in the same month with 12 days off, and another 10 days of being left alone... which would you chose?

Granted, sometimes (as in lately) the reserves, especially captains are short and those guys end up flying upwards of 80 hours, but that's not common..

Frankly, if I were living in HNL (I commute), I"d be glued to the 717 until the last one was retired... it's a good gig for locals.

Same here, sweet gig if ya live in HNL. I'd bid it in a heartbeat if I didn't have to commute from an outer island.. Not that 3 day overseas trips are bad, but working an AM or PM is sweet for those guys.

skicapt 05-27-2013 01:00 PM

anyone have a guess when the next Phase III round could be?
