Was just chatting with an Airbus instructor in the crew room, seems it's all 767 and 717 50/50% or something.. even though there's 11 not 12 as originally planned.

Hawaiian Airlines Hiring

Has anyone been hired after an initial "thanks but no thanks"?

Probably quite a few the following year or years... Many have interviewed 2,3 or 4 times before getting the nod....

Probably requires waiting for the next application window to open? (rumor is later in the Spring)

Did he mention anything about there being probably 2 more classes this Spring before the next app. window? (rumor I heard from somewhere)

Seems like they still need to fill 8+ vacancies for the 767?

No, last I heard was this was the last class for the window. But that frankly doesn't make sense. Then they'll have two months of no hiring. So who knows?

And as far as I can figure, they'd be a bit short of the projected hiring of 93... But not sure where they are at..

I know a guy who interviewed (Phase I) first week of December I believe. So I figured they'd have a class or 2 more?

Replacements for the 717. ...

Shifty 01-07-2013 01:52 PM

Any word on when Farkus will start Phase III? Interviewed at the end of November. Any word would be nice! Congrats Pizzaboy!

I think those are partially 767 replacements for weaker markets too, right? The 717s still have a lot of life in 'em.

Yep, just heard it, they are indeed 767 replacement / suppliment. Not 717, although if they chose to accept 318/19 to replace the 717, that is now also available assuming the airframes are up to the job.

the numbers the union gave us are...

1000 pilots by the end of 2017, and 58 retirements in the same period for anyone interested in hard estimates. Currently there are 615 on the Jan seniority list.

Coming from a fairly new hire so take it for what it's worth..But I have consistently heard somewhere in the ballpark of 70+/-. next year (this year:p)... Hawaiian has some things in the works so it MAY continue that way for quite a few years...

If any one is wondering, the job has been a blast.. many of the normalcies at Hawaiian would be typical senior stuff at other Legacies.... (schedule, equipment, time on reserve etc)

So far:D

the Airbus NEO order is certainly interesting and the projection of 1000 pilots by 2017 very promising... .lets hope this holds.

Yeah, having gone through the "you'll be a Captain making $180-$200K within X number of years" before (at another company), I am patiently holding my breath hoping no shoes drop..... All I really wanted out of Hawaiian was to be in the top 80% ASAP...Although 1000 pilots and around 50% on the list in 5 years would be welcome:)

looks like you and I are much in the same boat, and have similar backgrounds.... I too have been thru the koolaid once too many times to get to wound up, but this is about as promising a situation as I can expect to be in considering the state of the industry.

atr42flyer 01-14-2013 08:21 PM

what are the odds that they will open another mainland base?

Again, from a newbie, but from what I've heard is an additional mainland base is not a real likelihood.... most likely I've heard closing the SEA base (767 training facilities located there etc) and possibly opening a Bay area base due to the 3 airports and amount of flying done to those 3..... I've had SEA based guys tell me they don't plan on ending their careers based in SEA.......

I'm new so just going by what I've heard at sim and/or conversations I've overheard..

Then again, forming my own opinion, I'd say "if" Hawaiian uses those A350's to do Europe flights AND if Hawaiian does more East coast destinations..then anything could be possible??....

yeah I agree.. Other than being smarter and applying in 2010 or 2011 like I should have, I feel that I/we are in a pretty darn good position at the moment....

tikicarver 01-27-2013 11:12 AM

Heard a rumor no more phase-l til the next window opens, just pulling from the pool to fill vacancies
anyone on the inside hear that?

Flying with a instructor pilot says there is one more
Class scheduled that he knows of.

I'd say the pool is big enough:rolleyes:..... Hopefully classes resume sooner rather than later...

We signed off on our LOA for payrates for the A321NEO..That hopefully will open the floodgates in a couple of years... From what I've heard, 1000 pilots is the target. That means almost 400 to go before retirements (roughly 65?? mandatory over the next 5 years....)

They are scheduled to arrive in 2017 give or take.. So that might make 2016 a good year for hiring... Plus the A330 is scheduled to keep arriving for the next couple years...

I think you're right. A few 76 captains I know moving over to the bus.

PizzaBoy 01-27-2013 06:50 PM

Class of 4 this Thurs (1/31). You guys thinking 767?

Shifty 01-27-2013 07:06 PM

So will there be anymore Phase 3's? Still waiting to hear. Haven't heard anything since P1&2 2 months ago.

Haven't looked at the numbers vs. the last vacancy... But we just had a class of 10/11 go through and it was 50/50 split between -76/717.... If I had any $$ to bet I'd say most likely -76... But again, just a guess with no research done lately..

PizzaBoy 01-28-2013 02:54 AM

Guess I'll find out soon enough?

Mahalo
