See you next picket I’ll be on VDA.
Maybe you’ll fly with some LEC reps. They were VDAing during the picket last time. Lead by example, right?

I’m not fearful and not weak. Several points-

1) I voted no, just like you. I am respecting the vote, even though I disagree with 60%.

2) as for my “lesser of 2 evils” comment my thinking is as follows. Voting No just put our future in the hands of the arbitrator. In the arbitrator’s letter, he specifically said he can’t comment on the NEA or it’s future- that is outside his scope. He could have done a cease and desist letter, awarded us damages or nothing at all. No one knows and it was a gamble for both sides how he would rule. While I disagree, voting yes makes the company ask for union approval to continue after 5 years. That is not insignificant.

3) I hear a lot of folks say CK should be recalled. If people really do feel that strongly, contact your reps and make it an order of business at the next meeting.

4) I hate being in the “if you don’t like it, leave” crowd. But I think it does need to be an objectively considered for many. Delta JFK A320 captain went to a new hire, United NB captain goes super junior on the coasts. No longer are the days of “I can’t leave because of seniority” yes you will be junior— but you will be a captain at a legacy as a new hire. It’s worth a consideration and may even be the right choice given your personal circumstances— even if you are already a A320 captain. The age of golden handcuffs is gone.

In summary, I’m just looking forward. I cannot change the past. I cannot control how other people view the world. I can only vote with my best interests in mind and look to the future and hope CBA 2 turns into the CBA we can all be proud of. To move forward, we all need to be on the same team.

You read my mind. I may not VDA, but I will definitely not be wasting a day off picketing for a bunch of weak sell outs.

I’ll speak my mind to a yes voter, but I’m not out to hang anyone. I think this will prove itself one of the most ill informed votes for our group. There can be no unity after this, scope is the single most important thing to a growing airline, we will suffer because of this. Unity died with this vote.

Contract 2.0 was decided today. If you fail to see this, it just shows you are still playing checkers.
I disagree, they learned a lot from the last vote. They saw how close they were to getting it passed and I’m sure some were shocked, like that’s all? Let’s give them a few more dollars. This is just a carry over from how close the last vote was. We’ve been weak as a pilot group and as a union in general. They learned it long ago not with todays outcome. I truly lost faith in getting a decent CBA2. Not with this pilot group we ain’t.

A lot of the new guys who spent maybe 1-1.5 years at the regionals and never got the mentorship about the lost decade and such aren’t helping. Throw in the mil, various gateways, and others with no knowledge about the history of the airlines/pilot unions/RLA and it’s a recipe for a nice steamrolling by the company. I don’t have much faith the pilot group will get any better. Oh well. Some guys just don’t and won’t get it. Obviously.

Ive always been for trying to be positive and not letting things in this industry that are both expected and unexpected get to me. I can rationally say don’t get mad or at the very least annoyed with the other part of the pilot group. It feels like I’m working to get more and then just a touch above half of our group says no it’s fine we’ll do it for this little. Why spend so much time and energy when more than half is just going to say yes to anything. You’re absolutely right the demographic has no clue unfortunately.

Default Gateway/pilot mill backgrounds

I worked alongside pilots that are coming through the university flight schools in various gateway programs/flows. There is a reason airlines like United are running their own flight school. The candidates they bring in are 100% dedicated to the company and will do whatever they are told. The vast majority come from customer service backgrounds (flight attendant, retail, etc) and are screened for their adherence to company beliefs and "purpose". These are people with low critical thinking skills, which is exactly what the company wants.

This is why airlines like spirit, JetBlue, even United hire low time young kids through gateways, because these candidates don’t understand anything about the history of the airline business. So you see a 26 year old with 3000 hours goes to B6/United over a regional guy with 6000 PIC because they know the young kid will be an obedient employee.

This is what all the hiring like Frontier’s flow from ATP flight school and JetBlue’s gateway is about. Obedient YES voters in future employees. Kool aid drinkers. And behold the results.

Thanks for making it okay for me to fly my 50 seat RJ into BOS carrying AA and JB passengers, after the fact.

J/k, that was really dumb of you guys.
