exactly this. Lgb city council didn’t want us and I’m glad we are gone. I fee for the people based there but it is much better for the whole company.

I think 70 a day is a lot more than JB ever had at LGB correct? How about the peak LGB+LAX in the past?

I think peak was around 35 LGB and 20 LAX maybe, but the 35 LGB didn’t last long iirc. So I’d say minus maybe one peak LGB season 40-45 total a day.

I’m curious to hear how initial staffing is going to go, as well as how they’ll make this work with only 3.5 LAX gates, assuming I heard that number correctly. Maybe the pilot pocket session will shed some additional light onto specifics?

Sounds like we have access to more gates in T5 now. Maybe with the other LCCs cutting back a bit we were able to get some

Well 70 is more better than 40-45, but sounds like it will take several years to get to 70.

Overall I think this is good for the company, but I know the drive/parking at LAX will be hard for local JB crew.

Yeah I don’t think this is really any immediate SoCal growth, it just opens a pathway for it (guess we will see in the August bid how projected block hours affect staffing). If we can just chip away at a little market share here and there, then that helps overall. I also think we will get smoked on some of these routes...we will just have to find what works, as north/south out of LAX is obviously new for our network, and extremely competitive/saturated...and we don’t have cheaper outsourced flying to do any of it like everyone else (minus WN).

West coast short haul is a crowded market. I bet within a year or two RNO/BZN/AUS/SEA are converted to transcon routes.

Good news for the company! Glad to see we're taking advantage of opportunities during down times.

Yep. totally agree. Used to deal with similar issues at SNA when I flew for another carrier. All the residents want convenient service close to their homes so they can avoid going to LAX but then they complain as soon as a plane goes over their homes. God forbid you were a crew who triggered one of the dozens of noise meters in the neighborhood. Ridiculous.
