SR (head of scheduling), will try to push the new guys by making threats, but as long as you have orders or a letter from your unit for the chief pilot, they're very good about assuring that you'll be home for your duty. I've had them send me home a day earlier, so I could have crew rest, then I could fly a mission. Never had an issue. Just keep them informed.

lol....no............the main reason being ... everyone but mgt pilots must bid by seniority for lines. You will just have to bid... then produce orders/letters for the dates needed... and then negotiate with crew planning aka... SR or Alicia for your days on schedule worked around the framework of what you were awarded.

I had the same problem and worked the system backwards. I talked with the XO and he allowed me to find a billet that allowed me to drill around my days off and have the unit sent a drill chit to my XO. Worked great. As the XO said, he was more interested on my giving them the days required. When was of no consequesnce.

If there is anyone with recent experience at both K4 and Atlas, would you be so kind as to compare their -400 training programs to one another. Is K4 really a "lets see how many we can washout this week" type of place? If a guy made it through 5Y initial, I'd assume that he would be able to do fine at K4 and vice versa. Not trying to stir the pot or upset anyone, just curious about the two programs. Thank you.

K4 program is pretty ambitious... very self directed when it comes to learning systems and in a fairly short period of time. Its AQP based. While there have been a few who didnt get thru... its not as daunting as some might make it seem. There are a couple of instructors who have been known to go off the reservation from time to time but thats becoming less of an issue as of late. All I can tell you about the Atlas program is that it is an old style Initial. And takes about 8 or 9 weeks... a few weeks more than the K4 program. We have had 10+ guys go to Atlas in the past year or so with no issues.... can't imagine anyone is going to or even contemplating going from Atlas to K4.

Hey, thanks a lot for the info. I wonder what the background of the guys who didn't make it was? Could this have been their first 121/type rating program or did they just F off and get drunk every night. As bad as K4 seems to need people, you'd think that the training department would want the whole class to succeed. I'm not saying they should hand out type ratings or anything, but to wash out a guy who is putting forth effort with a good attitude seems to be costly to both parties.
Getting drunk every night is a prerequisite of success here... Just ask half the Check Airmen.
