Kalitta Air now accepting FO applications
#354
After his last eval train wreck RG and another FE went off and bought their type on the 400. Now after 2 busts trying to get the right to upgrade. It was sickening listening to a certain ex FE, now CA last week preaching that FE's should have unlimited attempts to upgrade until they succeed

Unless the fleet doubles, (and that is not likely), there is little chance of an upgrade. We have 60 or so Captains who will probably never leave. The best that you can hope for as an FO here is that they hire enough below you, that you will be able to bid the days off of your choice every month.

"Why aren't the Captains leaving?"
Lets see........ Leave a senior position with good bidding choice's, predictable time off, tickets to and from home, a very livable salary,........ to maybe have to commute to Newark, mooch rides to and from home, a lousy first year salary, free health insurance, jerk gear for some person who thinks they are special, 3 on 4 off, 4 on, 3 off, constantly jumpseating.........with only 10 years to go, its a toss up.

All airlines, yes even yours, have clowns that would probably be unable to get a job anywhere else. They either knew someone who pulled them through, came with a merger or had one good two hour period some years ago where they were able to convince someone they where almost normal. Yes, the supplemental carriers have a reputation for being the home of last resort, but that is fast becoming outdated. Many of your former coworkers are now at these airlines and choose to stay for many reasons. Even many of those who would be undesirable to the "respected" airlines are fine pilots, just a little outside of the stereotypical airline pilot profile, and thus stay happily in the supplemental world.

Yes, especially those at K4 who are: F-16, F-15, U-2, C-17, B-52, KC-135 (and many other types) pilots, rotor craft officers, service academy graduates, civilian college grads with great records and who have massive numbers of flight hours as captain in previous companies operating widebody jets to some of the weirdest places in the world you've never heard of, people who pulled themselves up from abject poverty and unfortunate circumstance in their youth to make themselves what they are today, etc. etc. etc. and on and on. Not to mention the ones who have already left and gone to "respectable" carriers, whatever those are.
I'd put 95% of our guys and girl up against any pilot, at any airline, anywhere. If you're used to being spoon-fed by your dispatcher (what are those?) with every flight, and if the fact that your gate has no marshallers when you arrive causes you to run screaming into the night, flailing your arms about, you'd never make it here.

"Respectable Carriers"...... wow! That's a pretty limited view of the world.
My best friend in high school was hired in 89 by then Northwest. At the time I was flying for a smaller international supplemental/scheduled carrier which you would know of....well maybe not in your case. Anyway, he had only commuter time when Northwest hired him, I had 7 years in big jets flying overwater when I was hired. One day he told me that while in indoc at Northwest, he and his new hire class were told that they were the best, and highest qualified pilots available. He was serious and swallowed that BS hook, line and sinker. I was taken-a-back by his naiveté, and I felt a bit insulted by the obvious underlying meaning of that
sentiment. Today he can't believe that he ever bought into that crap and is embarrassed that he once did.
You should ask some older guys about the history of pilot hiring at the majors, especially UA. It was a mess. Additionally, it's best to consider that many pilots were unable to pass the stringent medicals at the majors. This hardly reflected on their abilities to fly the big jet.
