This thread is in especially bad taste considering the $25B taxpayer funded bailout this year. I’m not against the bailout, it was probably necessary, but bear in mind that many folks in this country have not been so fortunate and media / other entities also visit this site.
made 10 times the national average.

So we only look at comparison in good years for certain parts of the industry? Not tone deaf, I said some guys did well and some had rough years. The point of the thread is to see perspective of earnings at certain places and certain airplanes. This information helps those that are coming up in the industry as well as those who are looking to move to other airlines.
To be honest I didnt even do that well compared to many of my coworkers.

Some airline is always in negotiations. So shall we never talk about earnings so as to not “give away the secret” that we are paid well. By the way management knows what we make they cut our paychecks. Government knows what we make because they process our taxes. ITS NO SECRET to them. This is for those looking to move up or over in the industry. Its not bragging it comparing. Many other professions have websites they can go to to look at average earnings of other jobs.

So when a journalist publishes an expose in the NYT about how airline pilots are clearing over half a million dollars a year while being heavily
propped up by taxpayer dollars, meanwhile the general public is struggling, how likely do you think it’ll be that they’ll support round two?

So I'm in the camp that thinks that this thread in a normal year is very interesting and informative. It allows someone on the outside looking in maybe where the best value pilot job is. And it also gives one perspective on how other Airlines deal with labor......giving one a an expectation going into negotiations....at least as a fly on the wall. This is it's a little different given the bailout we received and that the industry in general is down....not to mention the country.

I wonder how many of our brothers and sisters that have been completely destroyed by this year, are going to feel like total losers, as their world implodes around them? They are wondering how they are going to put a little something under the tree for their little ones, not to mention keep a roof over their heads. Then along comes posts like the one above. How is that going to make them feel? They are going to feel like crap. You are not helping people. You’re just stroking yourself buddy. Shame on you and anyone else that posts their numbers.
The only people that will post their numbers, are the same people that will tell someone who just got furlough notification, that they decided to put the pool in, upgraded the wife’s car, and traded up to the new wake boat. Show some humility and keep your numbers for your tax man/financial advisor. No one wants to hear it. Also, if someone comes along and says they appreciate the information, that doesn’t absolve you or them of the lack of tact or class.

This thread is important because it shows the inequity in pay in the airline pilot profession. An FO at a regional does a similar job to a Captain at a major. Why is there a 10x difference in pay? No other profession has that large a pay differential. If we want a differential for a captain vs. FO, that is fine, but the fact that a WB CA’s makes a ton more than a Regional CA is ridiculous.
This profession would be a much better place if pilots on the high end made less and pilots on the low end made more.
