Not the worst idea I've ever heard. Beats what they did when they went from 60-65 overnight while a few thousand were still on furlough.

Mmmmm… not a terrible idea. Would probably thin the herd as well.

Imagine being a captain for 20 plus years and now you’re doing the pre / post flights in the cold rain. Single engine taxi checks and flows. The right seat is a lot more physical and mental
work if you ask me. If you’re a big 3 pilot then senior WB FO but that’s exhausting imho. Idk about that.

exactly why they should do it. They also wouldn’t have to pay for beer anymore if they were one of the captains that bought beer. Aren’t there ICAO rules about flying over 65 internationally?

The article mentioned the Regional Airline Association was in favor of 67. How may 64 year old RJ pilots are there?
United CEO came out against raising the age. Said 40% of 64 year old pilots were out on medical.
So if it goes to 67 at 65 claim vertigo, depression or “suicidal thoughts” and collect your sick leave, disability etc for a year or 2. Paid retirement.

Won’t do squat to fix the “shortage”, but then again it is a “guvmint” solution.

It's a stopgap. They think it will slow down attrition to the destination carriers long enough for the commuters to catch up and hopefully (in their minds) create a little artificial demand so they can lower wages.

I'm not one of them in this case, but there are people who will argue that the "gubmint" shouldn't be involved in this in the first place. Other than to require a medical exam to fly pax.

Be careful of hypocrisy... many folks hate the gov, except when it's doing something for them.

I agree it doesn't fix anything and more than likely a significant amount of us will be able to collect disability for a bit longer. I don't think this would be like last time. I m not out and out in favor of raising the age, but I m not loosing sleep over it if they did.
