I always think it's stupid when old guys complain about "the younger generation". There's nothing more perennial than one generation lamenting how hard they had it when they were young while pointing out today's youth are spoiled and ungrateful.
But here I go.

This GenXer rotted away in a right seat after 9/11 which literally put 10s of thousands of ATPs with 121 experience on the street.
I rotted away in the right seat during the financial crisis of 08/09 and everyone's 401ks shrunk 50%..
And then I rotted some more when Age 65 was implemented (while there were literally 10s of thousands of ATPs with 121 experience on the street, in case you missed that part).
It was a rotten time to be a pilot.
Today is different.
The market for pilots is historical. This is truly a once in a career opportunity. The Age 67 proposal is a stupid short term political move by the airlines to buy just a little more time to help out their staffing.
All the unions are opposed to Age 67 and they should be. Unions should protect the greater good and there are simply more pilots younger than 63 than age 64. But, if this thing passes, it will just be a blip over the entire arc of a 30 year career. In 20 years no one will even refer back to it like we do with 9/11 and the Lost Decade.
The Millennials will be just fine. They'll be just fine until single pilot airliners become a material threat to their careers. Then they will watch their ranks, pay and benefits become decimated at the hands of the bean counters. But I'll be well dead and desiccated at that point. My advice, have a Plan B when the robots come for your jobs.

Why would the Age 67+ proponents bargain? They think they can have their cake and eat it too, and they're probably right, because they already have.
Also, you don't represent anyone except yourself.
Now shut up and pay your dues, Junior. You'll l be senior too one day. /s

I figured I'd get the responses I'm seeing. Everything status quo... except those 64+, they want to get their extra 2 years because their A plan was "frozen" or removed.
The reason QOL items won't ever be in favor of the masses... the senior guys had to go thru ****, so now you do too. I say that a mid seniority guy.
So why are we holding out for "QOL" items? If we actually get them, it will probably be voted down here at United, because the Sr will be mad we didn't convert those QOL items to $$.

Alpa is opposing 67 so there’s that. If I was in Congress I would do the same. The best way to represent the interests of jrish pilots is to have those pilots step up in key alpa positions imo. Personally, I wouldn’t let this issue sidetrack your unity at this point.

Age 67 will pass because that’s the most money going to politicians, not that I agree with it.
I started my career late and as I approach the end I’ve been on the back side of the seniority wave for most of it and as a result I’ve missed out on the best seats at the airlines I desired most.
That said, working our way up in seniority is a goal to shoot for and worth the walking the path to get there.
The FTYD group knew the last day would come, and now that it’s here and someone else gets to enjoy the fruits of seniority, they want to change the rules.
It’s all just greed and selfishness, trying to paint a picture of unfairness because the dynamics have changed and newer pilots don’t have the same dues to pay.
btw, if they do change it I’m going to 55 and eight months just to get the last years PS and what few retirement benefits we have.
